Default Factory radio play MP3's?

I tried a search and could not get an answer. So I am posting it up. Do any of the factory stereo's play MP3's? Or do you need an afternarket player for that....

THanks in advance.

yeah it's all about decoding. the factory setup there is no mp3 decoding, so aftermarket units with mp3 player is your only option

Along these lines, do you guys think that an MP3 decoding CD Player will swap into place?

(eg. i thought that some 98-2000 GS models had Panasonic systems......)

you can stick any aftermarket head unit you want in there....you will need an aftermarket head unit bracket and an adapter for the wiring harness

no, the system is pioneer (stock), not panasonic

but well, if you can really play with the back of the head unit, and dump a lot of money, maybe you can get somewhere

but if you wanna make it a mp3 player, i think changing the head unit once and for all is your best bet

Well, another option would be the VaisTech iPod integration that actually shows the MP3 tag info on the head unit or navigation display. Check this out and maybe it'll be closer to what you want:

That looks like a good option to me. I wanted to keep the interior looking as stock as possible. Trying to keep the car stock in appearance... except for wheels and tires.

Thanks Rom, NT and everybody! Good idea's. I like that iPod deal. I may look into that one!

I figured that I coudl get away with a head unit swap, but, I was actually thinking that you could just do the 6 CD changer and swap it out for a newer PIONEER unit that has built in MP3 decoding. ??

well, if you can get a pioneer mp3 changer / player, and has an interface that's easy enough to interact with the stock head unit, then it's a good. but i think that might be hard to do

I was going to buy the alpine special ipod deck and ipod converter box, but this will be cheaper and I wont have to **** around with swapping the deck.

WOW, the price was just 300 for the ipod modulator, but now its jumped up to 500. I was about to buy that system, but I think I'm going to go with a alpine.
