You're referring to the moisture? I don't think dealers clean that.

This is a very common problem on these cars and the only reliable way of "fixing" this problem is to replace the headlights. Needless to say that is a very expensive option.

Mine (as well as countless other folk on here) had this fog in them just after the warranty ran out, and the local Lexus dealer would not replace them.

To cut a long story short, I wrote a letter to the PresidentCEO of Lexus Canada complaining about this issue. I basically said it was unacceptable in an expensive car like this and that they had to replace them for me.

They did! You could try that..........

Just had mine replaced a few weeks ago, and I'm way out of warranty. When I mentioned the fact that I was having a "problem" with my headlights, the service manager immediately knew what I was talking about. He explained to me that they had been going through 5 sets or so a week (apparently, it is a really common problem). Anyway, the service manager told me that the problem got so widespread that Lexus issued a directive to dealerships that they are not to replace the headlights under warranty unless there's enough water in them for "a fish to live." Assuming that's true, that's pretty ridiculous. This shouldn't happen to a car that stickers around $50,000. Anyway, mine were replaced free of charge and they look great (I started another thread about the hassle I went through after I got the car back, but that's another story).

i would definitely talk to lexus dealership and see if they can replace it under good will. otherwise you will have to clean them yourself, that's a bit hard. replacing just the housing i believe they are about 300 bucks a pair

Like ROMINL said, some dealerships have what's called a "Good Will" policy. This policy takes effect when owners are out of warranty but have a "known" problem on their car. Usually big dealerships will honor this policy. Just make sure you are friendly with the service managers when discussing this. It's a very touchy subject...They don't have to honor it if they don't want to... This policy is just a way for dealerships to resolve the issue before you place a phone call to Lexus Corp over the problem and give them a bad rating.

yup i agree, after all the dealership will be doing you a favor, they don't owe you anything. being friendly is always a good first step

You could always call Lexus headquaters and just ask nicely about what can be done....If you get the right operator ...they might refer you to a dealer and take care of the problem.

You should sound concerned and worried but don't pop off at them they are just doing their job.

Good Luck,
Chaskim

Also, do you have family members that own other Lexus cars....ask where you go for service and try that dealership.

At one time I owned a 1999 GS300 (I believe yours is a 1999) and I had those same problems with the headlights just after the car went out of warranty. There were separate occurrences for both headlights and my dealer replaced them both for free. So, before you do anything on your own, you probably should check-in with your dealer; the worst that can happen is that they say "no".

windows winting? you mean tinting? some dealerships do, some don't, but i suggest doing it elsewhere. i am sure a lot of socal folks can give you pointers. i used tinting service (local shops) in carson area.

keyes lexus is in van nuys, pretty much 405 and 101. i go there for service most of the time. where are you located? if i am in LA i am around 10 and 405

I think he means Window Etching.

Don't let a dealership charge you for that. Go to your local Police Precinct and they'll do it for free (well, at least the NYPD does).
