Default Chrome strip on top of inside door panel

The chrome strip on the top of my driver's side inner door panel has many small dents in it and I want to replace it (I have a hunch that this happened when the previous owner had the windows tinted). Anyway, Steve at Carson has quoted me around $40 for the part. The problem is that I can't figure out how the strip is attached to the panel. I've had the door panels off several times (when I replaced my speakers) but I couldn't see how the strip was attached. Any ideas? Adhesive? Clips?

i have no clue, but it would sound like adhesive to me. that thing seems to be on the car very very tight. i have taken off the door panels couple times too, and that chrome stripe never ever moved a little

Yup, I couldn't agree more. That's why I'm hesitant to start prying at it for fear that I will destroy the door panel in the process (and that would cost an arm and a leg to replace). If it is held on with adhesive, it's really good adhesive because that thing doesn' t budge. Does anyone else have any other thoughts?

this is what i think. since your current one is so beat up anyway, why not just spend the 40 bucks to get a new one from carson toyota. when it comes, you will know what's on the "other" side of the chrome stripe and see if it's just adhesive or there are clips or whatever. that way you will have much better confident when dealing with the current one?

Default This exact same question was asked a few months back

This same question was asked a few months back, but it was worded differently. There were a few replies and I think that someone figured it out. I remember because my chrome strip is also pitted and I too wondered how it was damaged. Tinting makes sense. Let me look around a little more.

EDIT: Sorry e-man. Found the thread and realized you posted it. I made an earlier feeble attempt to remove my chrome strip. It looked like you have to remove the entire door panel to remove the strip. I decided that it wasn't worth the effort and left it alone.

Thanks Jelly Bean. I didn't even remember that I had started that thread. Since posting that thread, I had taken my door apart several times to work on my speaker project. I took a close look at the strip with the door panel off and it wasn't at all clear to me as to how it was attached. I think I'll buy the part like Rominl suggests and see what if any clips or adhesive is on the underside of the new strip. I'll let you know how it works out.
