I bought a load '02 GS430 (nav, seats, ML, 17" wheels, wood wheel) for $24.5 right before XMAS.

Agree, the price sounds too high. I bought a 98 GS400 in July, HIDs, heated seats, no Nav, no Nakamichi, 16" stock rims, no spoiler. 87,000 mi. paid $14,300 With mods inc. rims and tires gonna be $20,000 pretty soon tho, LOL

Default Sounds High

I just bought a '98 GS4 with hids, nav, nak, no spoiler and stock wheels with 86k for $14,700.

I searched in Autotrader and looked at severeal before deciding. Just make sure you search more than one car before you decide on the one you want.

Theo, sounds like you and I got our cars for prices at the low end of the range, the price quoted to 1st GS4 appears to be near the high end.

Default Yep!

DetMich1,

Yes, look like we were able to get a good deal. I bought mine from Naperville Motors out of Naperville, IL.

Real good guys to deal with, no hassles, just it was over the Christmas Holidays so paperwork took few days longer but all in all great experience!

I see you found the Lexus site with more traffic. That's good.

As you can see here, there's the same mix. Some references, some opinions. Either way, everyone is in agreement that the price is most certainly "on the high side", and while it's not a rip-off, it is in that grey area of "buy it, and know you will be happy, or, keep shopping in hopes of finding one as nice, but a little cheaper".

I still think you should keep shopping.

BTW, I forgot to mention earlier that I found my GS400 in California via that traderonline.com place.

It wasn't even a lexus dealer actually, it was a high-end, used car dealer. I just checked them for you but it looks like their website is no longer around. (ww.dontbuyjunk.com) It was in Anaheim Hills CA.

Also, regarding the post above, I didn't think NAV and Nakamichi were available together. I thought that they were "mutually exclusive", you could either get one OR the other back in 98/99.

You are correct, BA. from 98-2000 the onboard NAV and the Nakamichi stereo system were mutually exclusive, you could have either one but not both. Not until the introduction of the GS430 in 2001 and the switch to Mark Levinson sound system were the two available together. Perhaps the Nav referred to in the post above is an aftermarket system that has been installed as a modification.

Default Help from Experts

That is strange.. When I asked the sales person at JM Lexus (Margate, FL) what radio was in the GS400 '98-'00 cars equipped with the navigation, they stated the Nakamichi unit. Even though you don;t see the Nakamachi labeling on the radio, like you do on the Nak only equipped cars, they stated that in fact a nak unit is used in the Nav system option.

I would like clarification on this, so I get it straight in my own mind.

Any experts please chime in.

Thanks
Theo

The following is excerpted from the Lexus Model Library for 2000 (the same restrictions apply to the previous model years 1998-1999) The pertinent sections reagarding the Nakamichi sound system and the Navigation System have been highlghted in bold letters:

- Nakamichi 280-watt (max power) Premium Sound System (not available with Lexus Navigation System[4])
- In-dash, six-disc CD auto-changer
- Power tilt-and-slide moonroof with one-touch open/close, pinch protection and sliding sunshade
- Heated front seats
- High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps with dynamic auto leveling

Individual Options

- High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps with dynamic auto leveling
- Power tilt-and-slide moonroof with one-touch open/close, pinch protection and sliding sunshade
- Lexus Navigation System [4] (not available with Nakamichi audio system, requires CD auto-changer)
- Nakamichi 280-watt (max power) Premium Sound System with in-dash, six-disc CD auto-changer (not available with Lexus Navigation System)
- In-dash, six-disc CD auto-changer
- Lexus Chrome Wheels
- All-season tires
- Rear spoiler (requires a GS 400 option package)
- 17 x 8.0-in wheels with 235/45R17 Z-rated tires[5]

Hope this sets the record straight.
