$21k is the Black Book Retail price for an extra clean 98 GS4 with 42K miles. A clean trade-in price is $17,120.

I don't know this might help, but i bought a 1998 pearl white gs with 17"chrome no nav, but nachamichi sound, with 60k a bit more miles but still in perfect shape for 16,000.

thats price is way above average for what you would normally be looking at for that car. Good deal!

To the thread starter- Most of the time when people are selling on their own they will inflate the price of the vehicle by about a grand and they are usually willing to take 500 less than what expected......so in your case I would offer 19,500 because that is a fair price for both you and the seller. Just remember that they are people too and you have to be reasonable for the price in their eyes too. good luck

It really depends on where you are. From where I live, I would say that's a pretty good deal. You see GS's here with the same equipment but 20k more miles going for higher than that.

It does make a difference where you are, I paid 11K for a car in Texas that would've cost 17K here in Seattle.
Also to check the car out and see what it needs in terms of maintenance; that same car then required 3K at the dealer for some work.

I agree, I live in California, where everything is overpriced. I end up going out of state to buy all the time. 21k is a great price for Ca. Just wondering what the pulse was elsewhere.

I paid $20k for my 98 GS4 last year April. It had 50K miles on it at the time, and I had shipped from Texas. I thought it was a good deal at the time, but that was prior to joining CL and seeing others getting theirs for much less. However, the same year and models at the time were selling for $25-28K locally where I live, so in sense, it was somewhat cheaper. My only regret was that I wasnt able to check the car before buying it online (outside of doing a car fax check)...as Im finding out after the fact that the car had some bodywork done to it that the dealership didnt disclose.

It's on the high side, generally speaking, but it does have only 42K on the dial. I bought my 98 almost 4 years ago with 42K. I'd still try and bargain down, though.

Seems also a little high to me too. I just bought my in December 2004 no navi, heated seats, hids, and 70k miles for only $19k. I bought it from a LEXUS Dealer with a perfect history on the car and have the service record only 1 complaint,Pretty shocking only a rear tail light. Make sure you look @ a couple of cars before you settle on 1 car. Also try and pull the history on the car if you can. After you pay the mods will never end just bought HKS LS+ coilover 2001 Taillights which look a world of difference to me night and day. If you buy that car check this site all the time as it is the best one out there.
