2002 GS430 tire wear
i just rotated my tires at 23k miles. i noticed all 4 tires are completely worn out on the inside part of tire. when i did my last rotation at 15k miles, tires seemed ok. i didn't notice any uneven wear.
question is: anyone experienced the same problem as me?
i have everything stock, no mods on any suspension nor tire/wheel. i've always kept my tire pressure at 32psi, as noted in the manual.
i am bringing my car into dealer tomorrow, hope they will give me an aligment under warranty. looks like i need to shop for a set of new tires too.

If you do a search on this subject you'll find it's a common problem. It hit me recently in exactly the same manner; I kept an eye on my tires every time I rotated, and even in between, but all of a sudden I was seeing excessive wear on the inner shoulder, happened FAST. I had to replace my RE930's earlier than necessary, though I did get a ton of miles out of them (they were on the car when I bought it).
Got an alignment and the toe was out considerably, the caster/camber were pretty close to correct. The tech said the toe problem surely would cause that kind of wear.
Got some new Yokahama AVS db2s on it now and so far so good, but I plan to get an alignment every 6 to 8 months just to be safe. That's pretty much the drill. Good luck

thanks!!
thanks for your assurance, at least now i know it's a common problem with gs. however, 23k miles seems too short on a set of tires.
i replaced a set of 225/45/17 on my bimmer a while ago. the original tires lasted ~41k miles. they started cupping ~30k, but i kept using them til they wore out. similar problem with gs, the bimmer suffer from inside wear, but at a much more reasonable rate. 41k miles out of a 45 series tire is considered pretty good, i think.
yah, i am looking forward to visiting the dealer. hopefully they will honor me a free alignement, then i am off to tire shopping. costco currently has 60 buck coupon on 4 michellen/bridgeston tire purchase. i might just pick a set up from costco.
thanks again for your input!

yes, i have done a search on the forum, but most of uneven wear problem occurred on lowered or modified cars. i didn't see many complains on stock setup on gs.

very common problem. i was told to rotate my tires ever oil change (3000 mi) so it wears better.
i've been do this and so far so good.
i think there was talks about a camber kit but nothing yet.

if you don't see any major inside wear or some uneven bubble wear on the tires, i think it's all good. plus you see that all 4 tires are gone pretty much the same time, that's another indication that they went out evenly

23k?? 41k?? Maybe I'm too aggressive in my driving........15k out of the original (awful) RE030s and another 15k out of the S03s that replaced them. No uneven wear, just down to the treadwear bars, so reasonable wet weather performance dictated replacement.
Just a rule of thumb: what Tire Rack likes to call "ultra high performance" tires, esp summer tires, will have sticky, soft rubber. These will NOT be mileage champs regardless of aspect ratio. I didn't buy a high performance vehicle to kneecap it with good-for-60+k miles, wears-like-iron rim protectors.
Having said that, I'll be interested to see how long the Pirellis last relative to my previous shoes since their treadwear rating is a bit higher.
