Default footwell bulb help needed

This is freakin killing me. Someone step in before I go postal!!

I've been changing bulbs on my 99 GS4 to Polarg for a while now and its been going smoothly. Tonight I did the ignition switch (red superbrightled led) and all I have left are the dome light (no bulb yet) the footwells and glovebox.

Request #1
Well, I got the glovebox light out, and the bulb out, but the superbrightled.com white led (74 replacement) wont stay in!!! I can put the old bulb back in just fine and it stays. Any suggestions? Anyone run into this before? Is there a white bulb to match the polarg's or an led that will fit?

Bet you can guess what's coming next.

Request #2
How the heck do you get the 74 footwell bulbs out?!?!?!?!? Drivers side: I got the cover off, the socket out, but I can pull out the damn bulb. I've tried adhesive tape on a pliers, rubber jar lid thing, rubber gloves. Won't budge!

Passenger side. What do I have to take out to get to the socket? Or, can I just remove the cover and pull the bulb without taking the socket out? Again, how the heck do you get these bulbs out?!?!?!?!

Thanks for saving my sanity and whats left of my hair.

There are some pics of the ignition switch somewhere in CL. Search em out. They're better pics than what I can take.

Good news and bad.

Good news. I got the 74 bulbs out!!! Rubbed them with alcohol, drank the rest of the bottle, then use a Scott blue, disposable shop towel to grip the bulb. Got a firm grip, wiggled em, and soon they came out.

Bad news. The superbrightled.com led's were super loose fitting disappointments. No big deal... they were super cheap too. Great in the ignition, but never could get them snapped in so they would hold and make consistent contact in the glove box or footwells. Looked at them under a glass, and they appear to have all the right features on the plug, but the dimensions are a little different than the stock 74 bulbs. They just don't snap in.

So, I've regained what sanity I had to begin with, and I'm confident I can get those suckers out if someone here can recommend a good replacement, superwhite in color, either incan or led.

Or I guess I could go for the disco look and put in neon tubes.

for the glove box, yes, my bulb doesn't eally stay too. but after it's in, it will stay unless you shake it. i just carefully put them back together and it's holding well so far

for the food well, you should just take out the whole bottom foot well panel. it's very easy, just couple of screws and clips. that's the best way. otherwise, you just have to be really hard, and maybe use some plastic gloves for friction to pull out the bulb

I spoke to Br1an he is an LED badass around here along with O.L.T he told me to get these LED's for the #74bulbs.

I also ordered like 250bucks worth of led's from that site over a week ago but noting came yet & stuff I ordered after that is already here so thats one thing I dont know about, but as soon as I get them I'll do the glove box first thing

BTW this is the website Br1an gave me Autolumination.com

I'll be watching here to see if you have any better luck than I did with the 74 bulbs. Anybody have any experience with the 74 bulbs or leds from autolumination.com? They show leds AND a superwhite incan 74 bulb.

Might just try to putty in the leds with some blutack tomorrow and see what happens, unless someone can recommend a better fitting bulb or led.

Unhappy interior lights

Has anyone ever done a complete write-up for the installation of those interior lights? seems that alot of people have hard time to work on the interior lights, including me

I changed the footwell bulbs with blue leds. Yes - I had to pull real hard straight out and gripping them wasn't easy. I was able to do it though - then again, I can deadliftt 744 pounds and benchpress 515 pounds - these need the free divx codec in wmp to view:

Try using a some masking tape to help grip the bulbs.

Where did you get the LEDs and did they fit snug?

It was from one of these two ebay auctions I won - I can't remember if it was the 74 or 194 bulbs - and yes they fit perfectly.

umm i havent' seen one but they are all pretty easy, in a sense that it's straight forward. there is only one way to do it, just pull on the cover, OR you will have to take off the panels and do it from behind, which is a lot harder

Default Footwell bulb

Guys,
Your making it too difficult, the footewell cover/shield in which the light is installed (under the blower motor) is just snapped in with tree clips at the front seam (closer to glove box bottom). I have opened it atleast 4 time in the last week. The damed #74 I bought from OReilley Auto parts fits in the base but is too fat for it to stay in the holder.

Infact mine did not go out, I took it out to put it in my Accord's cluster which went out. So I am trying to replace my Lexi's now. I think the best bet would be to go buy it from dealer. I bought one from Honda dealer, but the guy sold me the one with holder, saying it does not come alone. Which is a BS, any how still with holder it was $6. I am sure you can get one for around $3 at toyota dealer, guaranteed to fit. LOL

Just to clarify, which I somehow feel compelled to do inspite of having solved half this problem.... there are two parts to this problem...

1) getting the stupid little 74 bulbs out. Several solutions have been mentioned on CF. The one that worked for me was cleaning the bulb with alcohol, then grasping it with a Scott blue disposable shop towel.
2) finding a bulb that fits, sticks, AND is the right color. There are replacement incandescent bulbs that fit, but they shine yellow, like the rest of the stock bulbs. And, there are superwhite replacement led's, but they don't seem to stay in the socket. Still worth mentioning any superwhite bulbs or led's that fit. I've only succeeded in finding bulbs that don't fit.
