My hood wont close
#17
looks like i'm not the only one with this problem haha
i always thought, man, my **** is falling apart, now i know it's just a fluke in the lexus
i'm with LUBS on this one. i just pull and release the hood latch (under the dash) a few times, and it works fine. only happens every now and then to me though

I was in the same situation, I took the latch off the bracket, lubed it up and bolted it back down. The hood closed. NOW the ******ing thing will not open back up...
Has anyone been in this situation? If so, how did you pop the hood with a malfunctioning cable assembly. I removed the cable all the way to the point which it enters the engine caparment, I pulled it with a pair of vise grips with no success. I also removed the underbody plastic and tried reaching up towards the latch, but its too tight to do anything. I am going to replace the cable and possibly the latch if I can get the hood open.
I have two ideas but am going to wait until next weekend when I have more time to try them.
1) Unbolt the latch off the bracket by reaching through the grill with an extension (not sure if this is going to work? If it doesn't I will be in deep crap.
2) Somehow remove the grill with the hood still closed? This is going to be extremely hard as you can imagine.
thanks in advance.

If you get stuck, just lower the hood until the safety latch catches (or until ....)
....the hood rests on the stops. Then, drive slowly (15-20 mph) over a couple of bumps (enter/exit a driveway; over a speed bump, etc) The impact and vibrations should be sufficient to permit the latch or cable to "reset". I've had this happen to me a couple of times and this quick trick has saved me. I can then close the hood normally.
Also, I agree with one of the earlier posts...be really careful how hard you pull on the hood release next time you open the hood. Be less aggressive and hopefully you won't have a recurring problem
good luck!

I know this sounds stupidly simple, but when I encountered this kind of problem I looked right behind the hood release latch (behind the grille) and there happened to be a rock lodged in there. It would not allow the hood to lock all the way, only to the point of the safety lock. I poped the stone out and it was good as new. I dont know if this is the same situation that you have... but its worth a look before you replace a good part.
