The cable is prolly stuck so on mine I have to pull the cable manually. You can follow the cable under the hood from where it locks the hood into place all the way up and pull on it above the headlight. tough to explain actually but it is there.

Same thing happened to me when I bought my car. I had it for less then 6 months and was pissed and scared out of my mind to drive it like that on the highway. They fixed it the next day for free.

I had this problem also. I fixed it by manually pushing the cable back in from the hood release lever inside the cabin.

I learned to avoid this problem by not pulling on the release lever with too much force, just use enough strength to release the hood.

$64 replace the cable + $94 Lexus labor = gave me peace of mind.

I tried doing it myself...always had problems days/weeks later...always worried

so I just took it in to the dealer. They are now respnsible if anything breaks or goes wrong..

the hood shutting experience is like brand new.

theres 3 screws. U can be able to see the two off them, but the 3rd one is cover up in the bottom u need a small flat head screw driver to take off the cover first

Has anyone replaced the cable themselves? Is it difficult?

I've had the latch assembly off and it looks OK. The dealer says I need to replace the cable. Here's the good part. They want $350 to do it. The part is around $50.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

I had this problem once or twice. It was fixed as easily as pulling the hood release lever a few times and trying again.
