Difference in Gs 400 and Gs 300
Hi im new to here and im debating wheather i should get a 400 or 300. I know the 400 has more power and its v8 but what are the differences other than that? And also what year should get and how much do they go for? I have heard people talking about the gs400 is alot better, very smooth but hows the gas mileage on it? Window sticker says 17 city and 21or 22 freeway? but do really get that much out of a v8? Please fill me in with some info, thanks.

Local market is different on cost to pay for a GS, and the condition and mileage of the vehicle makes a big difference. Listed below are a few links of a few places to gauge value of the GS.

simply put, 400's are better than 300's ....end of discussion. haha jk anywho, like dave posted you can find a number of differences in the two models....and if you plan on modding your car...you can do a lot more to a 300 block then you can with a 400....off the shelf stuff anyway...

I would have to say take them for a test drive as I did. First do a GS3 and then step into the bad boy GS4 and then you will no what to purchase. I personally bought a 99 GS4 for $19k before tax and all the other stuff that goes with buying a car. And man can I say I LOVE IT!!!! and would have to say that my next purchase will be another LEXUS of some kind down the road. The mod's you can do to this car are endless but will set you back quite a few $$$$ . Insurance cost me around $80.00 a month which isn't to bad . But which ever you decide on you wont be disappointed. Good luck on your purchaseof your new GS.

thank you for the advice everyone. Is there a year of GS 400 or 300 that i should avoid buying? I know that the first year of Gs400 production is 1998, should i a 1998 one or a year later which is 1999. I have read review of some people have minor problems with their 98 gs300. Once again thank you.

I replied to this already but now I have more time to type :)
Hi newbie.
Whatever you do, when taking into consideration the condition of a GS300 or 400, given that the previous owner took good care of it, I wouldn't worry about mileage and you should get the newest model possible. There are things that simply wear out over time like leaking headlights, chips in the paint, etc...
If I had to do it over again, I would get the GS400. I like to speed though. If you don't care about how fast you're going and just want a comfortable ride - go for the GS3 as it will save you some dough to make it more appealing on the interior (read: stereo with dvd player).
If you're going for speed, nothing can give you the best bang for the buck than a GS400 with a torque converter swap from JPI, a Supra TT LS Differential, and maybe some aftermarket suspension pieces to ensure you don't face plant your new ride into the guardrail. Mileage not being a real issue, you can pick up a GS400 for 18-20k, throw on the suspension (cost depending on what you get) and go-fast parts for another 2k and you've got one FAAAAAAAST ride.
I could be a little off on the pricing of the go-fast parts but I'm pretty sure it's close.

Hello,
I went through the same process. I purchased a 99 GS3, because I found a good deal on a CPO model from the dealer. I never drove the GS4, because of the cost difference. I didn't think it was worth the extra 10K for a GS400. Boy was I wrong, after having driven Al's silver bullet, (modded GS4) I shouldn've purchased a GS4. I would recommend getting the GS4 and be done with it. Yes! you can mod/turbo the GS3 but I wanted something stock for a while.
