I cannot believe some of the rates that you pay for insurance, maybe I am behind the times or something. Some of you ought to be looking for other rides. That being said, I equate the auto insurance industry with the mob - pay for the protection. Anyways, I am in my mid 30's, married with two daughters in Central Virginia. Full coverage, I am paying $390/yr with $500 deductibles for my 98 GS400. My wife has a 99 Volvo XC and pays about $300/yr.

No offense, but MD is SOUTH of us. So you should be "doing your insurance DOWN there".

MD was real cheap to insure motor vehicles 5 - 10 years back. I have family DOWN there. But now, many parts of the state is being built up and the population has grown. And I believe insurance premiums has gone up.

Anyway, I'm:
- in Bklyn
- 27 years old
- clean record for 5 years
- with GEICO
- only ONE driver listed (that's me)
- for two cars (GS4 & CR-V)
- full coverage (50/100/50 coverage on both)
- $1,000 deductible on both
- Insurance premium $5,000/year ($420/month)

I gotta move to South Dakota or Wyoming or Nebraska or something.....sigh.

geelex, $10k for a year is not too bad. When I brought my CR-V, I paid $10,000 a year for insurance. It was the first time for me being insured. I had a moving violation as well. But after I hit 25, and the moving violation was no longer within 5 years, my premiums dropped.

man it's hard to say. it has A LOT to do with what area you are in and the stolen rate of the car. probaly only people around you can tell you the best

Why is the GS400 one of the most expensive to insure? Considering its high price tag, most young people will not be buying and driving it and it is a luxury car not a sports car. It also has many safety features like airbags, anti-lock brakes, disc brakes, traction-stability control, good crash ratings etc.
Cars like camaros, mustangs, z cars, 240sx, wrx, evos, celicas, rsx, eclipse, crx, firebirds, transam are more likely to be sped and wrecked by inexperienced younger drivers. Cars like Vipers, corvettes, highend AMG benzes, BMW M cars, Porches, Audis, Ferraris, etc would cost a forturne to fix and replace but the GS400 is one of the most expensive? Honda Accords are the number 1 stolen car and there insurance cost is pretty low . Is the gap between GS300 and GS400 big. That might effect my buying decision. I can't believe some people are paying 5-10,000 a year to insure there cars..

well for quotes and easy comparisons you can always go to sites like progressive.com or i21.com and just quote the cars with other spec being the same.

i don't find the price of the gs400 particularly bad though.... it's pretty much in line with my sc430 (other variables of course) and some other cars (m3, m5, sl500, porsche) that i have quoted
