Default Help!!!! Can't get front rotors off.

I'm just replacing the front rotors with new ones but I can't get the damn thing off. I loosened the two bolts on the back of the caliper and took the caliper off with no problems. Now what is left is that carriage that the caliper bolts to. The rotor is loose and ready to come off but I can't seem to loosen the the two 17mm bolts on behind the rotor assembly. Most brake system I've worked on never had this caliper carriage assembly. I;ve pounde on this thing all morning. Is this assemble suppose to come off? I just can't see how the rotor will come off. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Usually the caliper carriage needs to come off to get the rotors off. I cant remember the name of the stuff that we used to have at the shop, but you can get it at any auto parts store. ask for something to loosen up nuts and bolts. put that on there, let it sit for 10 min and they should be free. hope this helps!

you do need to pull the caliper holder off, but there are two holes in the rotor, you need to put a bolt in each and tighten down. This will push the caliper off of the hub. The bolts are available at any autoparts store, tell them what you are doing and they should be able to give you the correct size

Yes. What he said.

If you put some bearing grease on the contact surface before you put the rotors back on, they'll be easier to remove next time.
