Well, it would leave swirls & may scratch the paint like others mentioned, but sometimes you get lucky.

How so? Well, if you don't clean you car off right away, sometimes it gets so cold that a thin film of ice will bond to your paint. Now, when you use your brush or broom to take off the snow, you'll get down to that layer of ice (so basically you don't touch your paint). Then when you drive the car, it'll warm up enough to start melting the ice on the paint.

Technics, that's a great idea! I'll give that a try. But you know what? When it's 14 degrees out, the last thing I care about is "leaving marks & swirls on the paint". Once you're out in the cold, freezing your butt off, you number one goal is to stay as dry as you can and get the car out as fast as you can. Then, you feel guilty afterwards.

Mo, I agree, I'm hoping that we won't get a huge dumping again this year, but I think eventually we'll get hit again. Remember last time we met, we said we'll bring the cars out and play in the snow? Well, I did......but it wasn't the GS. I tried driving the GS around the block just for fun right after the snow plows came by.........guess what? I couldn't get it back in the driveway. My driveway was plowed....it just had about 1" of snow/ice on it. It took me over 2 hours digging & shoveling to get it back in. I'll never do that again! But I did have a blast doing 4 wheel drifts using my other car.

I have no problem with snow. I just have problems with dirty black snow & salt that flies onto your paint. There were times this year that I didn't want to touch the door handle of the car because it was so dirty. And when I got out of the car, I didn't want to use my hands to cloes the door......so I use my boot (well, my boots are cleaner than whatever's stuck on the door already).

if i see my car like that i would cry
Rom, it's only a car. There are more important things worth crying about.

I'll post my snow pictures when I get home tonight.

When the snow came I had my car on the right side of the street. The side where the snow plows push all the snow to. My car didn't leave that spot for almost 10 days. I left it covered in snow, that way it was protected from all the dirty snow splashed by other cars.

Not having my car for ten days would make me cry.
I've never seen the snow stick around for ten days out here in Seattle. Usually 2-3 days at most.

Back in 1985 it snowed and then stayed in the teens and twenties for a week in mid November. I thought I was going to go right out of my mind with that one.

The other bad one was in 1996 when we had a big ice storm and it knocked out the power for a week and it was below freezing, and back then I had electric heat. Or should I say no heat, no lights, no hot water, no stove. I'd go to bed in a sleeping bag trying to stay warm. That was pure Hell!

We've only had one real snow storm since 1996 and it seems like we are barely having winters any more. Heck the flowering plum trees are already blooming. Last month we had lots of days in the mid 60's and all the ski resorts up in the Cascades closed because what little snow they had all melted. The watershed that supplies the water for this area has 4% of its normal snowpak.

It amazes me that winters seem to be getting almost none existent here and can be so bad on the east coast.

Please post pictures

Snow is only fun if you have an SUV or truck or you don't have to drive at all. Other than that, it sucks.

Fortunately in Atlanta we get almost none but just to be sure I'm moving to Florida in the next couple of months. LOL

Well, those ten days I had access to a Jeep Cheroke. It made parking and driving much easier.

Smile Snow Pictures

Hey Ed

Great pictures. Do you know how much snow fell to creat those conditions? I know alot of what you can see was pushed up by the snow plow. But that had to be alot of snow to start with.
I'm going to guess maybe a foot deep.

Yeah, it was a foot or more depending on the area.

As bad as it looks that was the safest my car has been in a long time. It was surrounded by all that snow and protected. You couldn't come near my car for about a 3 ft on each end. The first week I took it out and parked on a street, I received more scars on my rear bumper courtesy of a minivan.

I never EVER park on the right side of the street when I know it's gonna snow. Once the plows come through, it'll take you HOURS to dig out!

Nice pics man. Is that on Senator? The last time I was at your place, I don't remember it looking like that.

Nobody uses a car cover? or at least when snow is expected?
I know some car covers may scratch your paint also, but they must have some good ones.
Once i get my car painted.. i'm going to cover it all the time but does anybody know of some good ones that will not harm paint by scratching it, waterproof, and breathable?

its not legal in NYC to leave a car cover on a car parked on a city street overnight because it covers the plates

I guess if you cut a hole to show the plates, it would be ok
