Somebody shoot me, 98 GS4 $8,000
So I was at the auction today shopping for a GS400, I came across a silver 98 with grey interior in the most horrible condition. Dirty, no key, 16" rims, speakers popped, ripped leather, had front nose damage that was repaired but sloppy. This car had 110k miles on it and hoping I would buy it cheap and turn it into a project just didnt happen, the car went for $11,100. I come across the only other pre 2001 on the lot, 98 electric blue with a tan interior. The car is equipped with chrome 20s, xenons, heated seats and the outside is splendid. The interior is in good shape, everything in its place. While riding in it (i wasnt driving), i felt a little shake at idle but nothing major. The car had 139,XXX miles on it. The car went for $8,100 and i hesitated to bid fearing the mileage. Ive been in regret the whole afternoon, this really sucks.

I was one of the auctions here in MN a couple weeks ago and there was a white 99 GS4 with 100K on it. It had a really bad body kit on it that was cracked, no radio, no foglights, 2 16's on the rear and 2 17's on the back and some exhaust system that stuck out way too far. This car was pretty rough and It ended up selling for $8000.
If it had nav, I would've considered picking it up. Put the nav in my car, pick up some used bumpers, detail it and I'm guessing it might even go for more than $8000 when it's cleaned up.

man i wouldve been all over that, I love WHITE. IF this thing had 100k i wouldnt even look in another direction, especially a 99, man you shouldve bought it for me. Of course i would have to then pay $3,000 to tow it back unless it ran good.

Yeah usually you can assume auction cars need breaks. Auction guidelines have no return policy for bad breaks so no one ever fixes them if they need it. I bought my car in Cleveland and the transport company wanted $250 to ship it here to MN but they were booked out 3 weeks in advance so I ended up hopping on a plane and driving it back myself.

Man i dont feel so bad anymore, that was an even better deal than what i missed out on. I wouldve probably been able to sell the chrome 20s with tires for like $1500 and bought some 17" stocks for half the price (i dont like 20s anyway). But a 99 for 100k even in that condition, especially white for $8k i wouldve bought it on the spot. If you find another deal like that PLEASE PM me. Im sure that it only needed $2k in investment money and it wouldve been a fine 99 GS400 under $10000

maaaaaan- i need to go to the auctions!
I would have bought the Spectra Blue 98 in a heartbeat! My dad has the same car and he LOVES it. I think he's BARELY cracked over 45k miles in his 1998 GS4 w/ Nav and Chrome 17s. Pretty posh ride.
139,000 miles??? c'mon- we have CL members who have their 2nd edition GSs with a ton more miles and we KNOW they red line them every so often. (what GS4 owner doesnt'?)
$8,100... dude- next time you see something like that - hop on it. some peeps have that much and more in just mods and wheels.
I know - i know- I wasn't there so it's difficult for me to say and not everyone has that much in cash just sitting around- but for $8,100 - I would have written a check right there no problem.

I did mention that it came with chrome 20s right? Yea well this wouldve been my first GS that I would own. I am coming straight out of a 96 maxima that was totaled by a truck hitting my rear end. My car had 160k miles on it and it drove beautifully, in fact the kid that bought it from me for $1,500, fixed it up and is still thanking me to this day. The only GS I ever came close to owning is my gfs 2nd gen GS4 (she has 2 cars so while i dont have one i usally drive this) and that think only has 16k on it so i cant tell how it will run at 140k.
EDIT: I found a local ad in the paper today for a 99 GS4 black on tan for $14,900, it has 97k miles on it but i dont know the options. Unfortunately i dont have that much so I hope i can bargain them down to $12-$12.5 and buy it. Its a dealership so they usually over-inflate the price of what they really want to sell it for anyway. If i cant get it, i will reply to anyone who is interested on the location and condition of the car after i see it, as well as my negotiating with the dealer so you know what price they will bend at without wasting too much of your time. Ill keep you guys informed...
