Question What's so special? TRD Radiator/oil caps

I see these things sell for like $60/$100 respectively.. Are they really that much better? Or is it the name you are paying for because people recognize the name?? Really though....? just curious.

The oil cap is just for decoration. It doesnt do anything special but say TRD. The Rad cp on the other hand raises the pressure in your cooling system and lowers the boiling point of the antifreeze. Combined they add about 15 hp

Exclamation TRD radiator cap

Wow... I did not know... thanks for the scoop. So you are telling that for $60 or whatever I can get it for.... I can add 15 ponies to the lexus??? that sounds like something everyone should/would do.... Hmmm, are there any knoff off out there? Not that I want a knock off.. I just want to make sure they are not known to be out there.... if I buy one.

Thanks,
Rock

yeah the oil cap is all for look (if ever). i got it just to complete the engine bay with teh rad cap and the t-stat

the radiator cap does have a bit higher pressure. imho it should go together with the trd thermostat, which lowers the temperature of the car quite a bit when warmed up

The TRD radiator cap is another item designed for the custom look. Also, with a pressure capacity slightly higher than their stock counterpart, TRD radiator caps raise the boiling point of your engine coolant providing extra protection from a heavily-taxed cooling system.

Unhappy trd caps

So..... in closing,

Are they worth the price?? Not sure if there is leg pulling going on with this 15 pony increase statement........ if they really do, then I would say it is. But I am not sure you guys are being serious with that claim. Please confirm one way or another.

No...they won't add any HP....I wish it were that simple though.

Rock - it is only leg pulling.... like the statement 'stickers add 10 hp'. Its only cosmetic.

Cool AAhhhhh

Well, I know know that old statement about the sticker adding 10hp... That was just ummm, you know, obvious. But they started talking about temps, boiling points and cooling, etc, etc... If I am not an expert in something, I don't try to be you know what I mean.. now... lighting?? Welll i might know alittle more about that. Heheheheheh. everyone's probabl;y laughing at me now.... Hahahahahaha. It's Friday, why not. HH countdown is on.... hey, maybe I can find a sticker and put it on my OEM radiator cap..... maybe I can get half the HP? .

The stuff on the radiator cap pressure is a real claim... but it isn't going to really help you out from a performance perspective IMO. You'd have to be pushing your car (like on a track for an extended time) really hard to see any benefit, so it's primary purpose is cosmetic. Oil cap is just for looks.
