Everyone is going to be biased for GS and I understand why. I remember the GS3 being prett slow. I've never driven one on the highway. The 530 feels under rated for HP. Just flight a coin and get the color you want. There reasons why European cars come equipped without a bunch of American comfort items. If you want to be distinct go with the GS. Sure everyone has a bimmer but everytime you see one you like it.

Thanks to everyone for all of your comments. It sounds like I can't really go wrong and it will probably come down to the individual deal that will be the deciding factor. What is interesting is that some of you who own GS3's recommended the 530i for which I appreciate your objectivitiy given this is club lexus. The bimmer forums ALL said get the 530i, but then again, that's what I expected. I didn't really want to go older than 2001, but some of you are making me think I should consider a GS400?

I was in the same boat you are when I picked up my GS4 in 2000, I was actively comparing the GS with a manual 540. Back then, the newer models hadn't came out, but the bimmer still looked dated in my opinion. But as far as performance, you can't beat the bimmer stock for stock. Predictable handling, great feedback in the steering, strong acceleration, and very well matched gearing....couldn't have asked for more.
My main concerns were the reliability and initial cost. The bimmer was 5000.00 more than the GS and I wouldn't have touched the bimmer without an extended warranty. Overall, I'm glad I picked the GS, I gave up some perfomance issues, but picked up a problem free car with alot of fun factor. I agree the GS is floaty compared to the bimmer, but you can remedy that for less than 1500
Good luck.
