I know, that's what's killing me. The new 18inch G spiders are on special for under $900 for all 4!
Those 5 spokes at Sewell are chrome though, I just need silver. For that price I'll just get Iforged. I'm waiting for Darrell to get back with me on a price on Silver.

If I have to pick between the G Spider, Machined Tourmaline, 06 5-spoke and 2nd-Gen 17" 5-spoke, my pick will be the Machined Tourmaline. Tourmaline looks great on the new 06 GS.

Stick with the stock 17s, like you said they provide a good balance of handling and ride comfort. Look in the classified forums, there are a few sets on sale. I would be surprised if they cost the same as the I-forged you're looking into. Also, I'm not so sure if you'll be happy with getting 17 inch aftermarket rims for the price you pay and because they would look kind of small in that size. If you go aftermarket, at least get 18s because you were willing to get 18s from the 3rd gen GS.

As far as weight goes, a high-quality forged 20" wheel is typically lighter than a cast 18" wheel- my 20x9.5 front wheels are only 25 lbs. each. I'd bet the OE 18x8 '06 GS whees are at least that heavy...
One note: from what I understand, iForged wheels require hubcentric rings, so make sure they include these. In my humble opinion, a $2500+ set of wheels should be center-bored vehicle-specific, but... rings work well, the 'captive' type metal rings are the best (as opposed to plastic). Not sure what they use, though.
Strangely, the OE 2006 GS 18" wheels look good on the new GS, but not so good on the second gen.

You know where I come out on this, Chuck. And, as for the wheels in the first picture, they are nice wheels, just not on the 2nd gen GS. I just don't think they look right.
