Default GS400 vs GS430

Is there any difference besides .3liters? Is the 430 a better performer? I am looking at getting a 400 or a 430. Thanks for the help.

well, the 400 has e-shift and the 430 doesn't, that alone makes people still choose the 400 over the 430 but than agin the 430 comes with the wood steering wheel and new speedo cluster. from what i have gathred over the years the 430 has better emissions but the 400 is a little faster. search and you will find a lot of threads talking more in detail about the 2 cars..

Let me tell you that the E-shift is pretty fun to use. Also for a few bucks you cabn get all that stuff.

Also you can check the 'model library' on the Lexus site. They've removed model info for 1999 and earlier (but I printed them for the GS before they did HA).

I have never found anyone who has actually said they raced a stock 430 against a stock 400 or vice versa. I really wonder about this. I have driven both and to me the 430 is a bit quicker but obviously I'm biased

This is a very easy one...

Get the 400 man... The e-shift makes the world of difference.. It helps in braking due to fact U can drop the gears...

straight auto is so boring.... and Yes.. 400 will take the 430..

If u like the slippery wood steering wheel thats up 2 U..
I say save that little extra cash difference and mod the 400

I think the idea of a 400 being a bit quicker is based off the lexus web site, that shows a 430 as 0-60 in 5.8 while the 400 is 5.7. Given two non moded cars at the light, I think it would come down to driver skill as to what car is quicker. Either case, I think it would be close but technically the 400
is .1 sec quicker to 60. I myself never had the opportunity to run a 400 and now that I have the 3.76 lsd, I'm definitly quicker than a stock 400 or 430 .

I love the wood wheel

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather my 430 have e-shift too, but there is nothing e-shift does that I can't manually do with shift gate, and honestly, the time it takes for the car to react to e-shift or manual shift input is pretty disapointing. It's better to shift manually to hold gears longer or downshift without having to go full throttle, but I think most will agree that under WOT, the computer shifts best on its own.

I'd love to run a stock 400 I don't think an extra 15lbs of torque is slowin me down If someone around here stock want's to meet me at the Bradenton track, I'll go. Thursday nights is test and tune, 6-11pm.

I'm with you on this one. I've driven a 400 myself and I really do not see any advantage in e-shift under wot. When I drove the 400, the e-shift does not respond immediatly to input. There's enough delay that will cause you to hit the rev limiter if you don't time it perfectly. What good is that? To me, if e-shift were to offer any advantage over the computer shifting , it would have to be designed to shift immediatly without any delay. Like I said, technically the 400 is .1 sec quicker but in reality, a run between a stock 400 and 430 boils down to driver skill. It could go either way but it will be very close.

we have to hurry, before it gets too hot again. and yah, that would be fun. I wanted to go last week but it was too windy, and yesterday was real humid. You're in Brandon, right John. You're probably only an hour so from there too I think. Maybe next week

I just want to make a few passes and see what it really runs. It'd be killer though to have a true test of 430 vs 400.

I am sure it would be fun. I need to at least get a tranny fluid change first before putting it through the 1/4 just to be safe...

Sometime Sat. mornings are good too.

imho whenever we talk about which car is faster, i would never factor in the driver. one good example i always use. i can put my grandma in the 911 turbo and i can still probably win her in my is3
