Default I'm the guy with the 98GS with 317,000 miles

Yes I'm the guy with a 98 GS that has 317,000 miles on it and it drives like it did the day I bought it. 82K isn't even broken in yet. I have a couple of photos of my 98 GS on the "Lexus of Tulsa GS Event " Thread that I posted earlier today. The dealer had it for a week to get it show ready and a couple of salemen came up to me to tell me how amazed they were at how tight my car felt.

Check to see if all of the maintenance was done by a Lexus dealer. One trick that my dealer told me early was to use the same Castrol oil that the dealer uses with every oil change even if I change the oil myself. He said long ago that when he has to tear down an engine he can easily tell the difference between an engine that uses the oil that Lexus uses and those that aren't particular about their oil.

My local dealer has done EVERY oil change and EVERY recommended service. It really all boils down to the service records and how regular they were with oil changes and routine maintenance.

Keep in mind that you are near the first major 90K service. Don't put it off if you buy the car. I know that these 90K services are expensive but they do contribute to the life of your car.

A couple of weeks ago I was at the local dealer and they were telling me about an 02 LS that was burning oil. The owner was complaining so they asked to see the oil change receipts. She was proud to produce her receipts which came from the same small full service filling station. The first oil change was at 15K miles and between 7-10K there after. It really does make a difference

I was content to put an easy 1/2 MILLION miles on my 98 GS. Hey I've got a 17 year old daughter getting ready for college so I didn't need to be spending $60K on a new car. But then I heard about the 06 GS and stumbled onto the CL website quite by accident. I was hooked spending late night after late night reading everything I could and getting myself so worked up that the next time I was in for service I told them to get me an 06.

I can't be happier with my new 06 GS430 except for the fact that now it is time to sell my 98GS. Sure I have family and friends that would love to buy it but I know that many of you will understand how hard it would be for me to see it again. That car has meant a lot to me and after that many miles you can't help but get atttached. God I love that car.

P.S. The Lexus of Tulsa GS Event Thread is on the 3rd Generation Section.

The weather here in Oklahoma is supposed to be sunny and in the 70s on Saturday. I plan to take both my 98GS and 06GS to a parking lot and snap some side by side photo comparisons and will take a shot of the ODO on my 98. I will post them over the weekend both on the GS 430/400/300 forum and the 3rd Generation forum.

I have 136,000 on my 99 GS400. Showing some exterior/interior wear, but still running strong. I do beleive we own the best built cars that will easily last to 500K+ miles.

What is the asking value your asking on that car with a service history like yours ?

How about this with the amount of miles on your car and if you get an oil change @ 5k
That's like 63.4 oil changes by a LEXUS dealer @ about $40 a pop
Plus not to mention all the other goodies.

Let's just say that I'm on my Lexus dealer's Christmas Card list. I figure I average around $2,500 a year on maintenence when you factor in regular 5K service, the 90K major services and a little more than one $800 set of tires a year.

I tell people that my Lexus is still a bargain. The way I see is I would have gone through at least three Chevys and no doubt even more maintenance over a 300K mile period. Not to mention the peace of mind knowing that at anytime I can hop in the car a do a 1,000 day without even the slightless concern about a breakdown. The peace of mind alone is well worth the price.

I have owned that car for 7 years (bought it 1/98) and if I average 55 MPH over that period and if we measure a year by the 40 hour work week, I have been in my car for nearly 3 of the 7 years I have owned it!

As far as what I will be asking for it I honestly don't know. I still have to convince myself to sell it which I havn't completely done yet. I had several people give me business cards at the Lexus Event where it was shown and I have also had a couple of the local Lexus sales guys call me with phone numbers of interested people.

Alexus-Kia :

I hope you make the deal on the 98 GS. As long as you do your homework regarding the service records you can't go wrong. And if you can have even a fraction of as much satisfaction from your GS as I have had from mine you will remember that car for the rest of your life.
