I have a couple of photos of my 98 GS on the "Lexus of Tulsa GS Event " Thread that I posted earlier today. The dealer had it for a week to get it show ready and a couple of salemen came up to me to tell me how amazed they were at how tight my car felt.

Check to see if all of the maintenance was done by a Lexus dealer. One trick that my dealer told me early was to use the same Castrol oil that the dealer uses with every oil change even if I change the oil myself. He said long ago that when he has to tear down an engine he can easily tell the difference between an engine that uses the oil that Lexus uses and those that aren't particular about their oil.

My local dealer has done EVERY oil change and EVERY recommended service. It really all boils down to the service records and how regular they were with oil changes and routine maintenance.

Keep in mind that you are near the first major 90K service. Don't put it off if you buy the car. I know that these 90K services are expensive but they do contribute to the life of your car.

A couple of weeks ago I was at the local dealer and they were telling me about an 02 LS that was burning oil. The owner was complaining so they asked to see the oil change receipts. She was proud to produce her receipts which came from the same small full service filling station. The first oil change was at 15K miles and between 7-10K there after. It really does make a difference

I was content to put an easy 1/2 MILLION miles on my 98 GS. Hey I've got a 17 year old daughter getting ready for college so I didn't need to be spending $60K on a new car. But then I heard about the 06 GS and stumbled onto the CL website quite by accident. I was hooked spending late night after late night reading everything I could and getting myself so worked up that the next time I was in for service I told them to get me an 06.

I can't be happier with my new 06 GS430 except for the fact that now it is time to sell my 98GS. Sure I have family and friends that would love to buy it but I know that many of you will understand how hard it would be for me to see it again. That car has meant a lot to me and after that many miles you can't help but get atttached. God I love that car.

P.S. The Lexus of Tulsa GS Event Thread is on the 3rd Generation Section.
Bought my 1998 GS400 last July with 87,000 miles. It now has 104,000 and has run great and been great fun to mod. My 1992 SC400 whhich I bought new in 1992 and have since given over to my 17 year old daughter now has 338,000 miles. A bit more than your GS but I've had 13 years to rack up the miles. No question in my mind these cars can easily go half a million miles with just routine maintainance.
BTW highmiles, why not consider giving the older GS to your daughter when she heads for college. You wouldn't beleive how my daughter babies that SC. Washes it like twice a week. Always lookin' like its right out of the show room!

I certainly have given it a thought but my daughter drives a 99 Grand AM 4 Cyl and drives like a bat out of hell. Can't imagine her with a GS400. She has girlfriends with muscle cars and I've seen them racing and think it might be too much car for her.
