Just a reminder: HID lights are illegal without a self-leveling feature (that's what makes the option expensive). This feature is real easy to check by a cop (if they know about this), since the lights adjust up and down when the ignition is turned to ON (people still turn heads over this).
The rheostat is on the left arm of the rear suspension, and as the car sags due to added weight on the rear seat or trunk, it sends the signal to the headlight computer (yep, there's one, according to dealer) to adjust the lights down, proportional to how much the car sags.
The reason for this law is because these lights are very powerful, and can cause an accident if you blind oncoming traffic with them. And yes, you can probably get away violating this with your GS, since they come factory equipped with HIDs.

the Acura CLs, TLs,Rls and the Infiniti QX4s dont have self leveling lights. They are illegal, but most cops won't look twice unless it is on a civic or something.
I have actually had Cops pulls up next to me and ask me how much the HID option was. and at clubs off duty cops let me park my car next to the Ferrari that always seems to have that curbside parking space...
just only recently I have this hatred for cops (got a ticket last week)

You think acuras have true HIDs? look under the hood: they are just a bulb (probably PIAAs or superwhites). I physically saw it on a friend's '99 TL (and I don't think that has changed on newer models, but I can be wrong). And it makes sense: STANDARD HIDs on a $30K car, where pennies count? It's just marketing crap.
As a side comment, the new porsche 911 turbo has HID high and low beams, but with a single bulb. It uses the same leveling motor to raise the lights for high beam: clever, huh?

that is pretty cool about the porsche high beams - very clever indeed! However, I do think that the current acura TL's and CL's as well as the RL's use HID. Also I thought, like GS400TRD the auto leveling wasn't necessary because i don't think acura uses this feature - they should.

acuras do.
my friends have a 2002 tl-s and the other has a 2001 cl-s they do have HID, but because they use the lense to spread the light out, I guess they dont need the leveling device.
911s do have that neat feature, plus their projector beam hid's look the best just like the audis.

Have any of you guys try Nokiya bulb 9005 for the DRL, and High beams just bought them for about $35.00 a pair of course the bulb has a blue tint around it..i belive it is at stock replacement 60w>100w high beams when the lights are off from a certain view you can see a blueish around the inside of the light kinda cool in away
as for the wedge bulb i went with the prolarg M4 oem replacement 5watts atleast it looks better than stock wedge with my HID, i was considering the M6 18watts wedge but i would think that it would have a better chance of getting to hot and burning the house around it? Hope this helps.
