Question

Hi everyone,

i have been searching throughout the site for several hours looking for the best alternative to HIDs in head light. my bro's gs does not have the nice factory HID.

overtaxed and many members posted extensive infos on the parking and wedge bulb. my question is:

what are the choices for closest match to HID without spending a fortune? piaa, polargs, max white? any simple plug-ins?

appreciate your info on specific models, ~prices, and place to buy.

thank you.

william

Or, can anyone recommend a good source to purchase HID conversion for the GS3s with no factory HID xenon?

thanks again.

Hey Will,

The closest bulb to HID IMHO is the PIAA Plasma bulbs from Japan. Auto Freak in LA downtown Mitsuwa (Yaohan) carries them for $140. The bulbs have a slight bluish/purplish tint that closely resembles HID.

Keep in mind each automobile maker's HID has a different tint to it. BMW is more bluish/yellowish, Audi more purplish, and Mercedes more bluish/whitish. The different tint is due to the reflecting lens and not the Xenon bulb itself. I guess if you wanted to mimic Lexus, then it does have a more purplish tint. I have the PIAA's in my car and they do look very nice.

AutoFreak is very expensive...you can get the same bulbs from some other stores for less...but I highly recommend PIAA. They make great products.

gs4will,

I have Eurolites in my high beam, I got them from autotoys.com. The light color is white and from certain angle is has a blueish glare, but it is does not light up as much road area as the oem bulbs from the driver's seat. But it is suppose to put out less light due to the tint on the bulb I guess. At $22 bucks tho, it is a bargan.

You have to be careful with these cheap bulbs...many of them will blow up in your housing (and you have to buy a new housing...NOT cheap) or they'll burn out your harness. If it's not PIAA or Raybrig, I wouldn't recommend it. Saving $50 isn't worth replacing a $200+ housing. Stick with PIAA's or Raybrigs!

Hey will, first nice to meet you at the meet, second, I just my HID installed for 2001 lexus factory oem HID with green tint. it costs me for 950, and the quality is unbelievable. however, if 950 doesn't sound rite for your budget, he also can install different stages of factory OEM hid for much cheaper price. 550 ~650 for used 2000 HID, same quality garenteed.... so take that into your consideration. I just think if you gotta upgrade something for your awesome lex, just go for the best! = )

gsintensive - 950 is a good price for me. Is there anyway he can mail me the parts so i can get o.e.m. HID lights on my car?

If not how about the phillips hid conversion kits? Anyone have experience with them.

I heard somewhere that if your car didn't come with the xenon/hid lights, then its illegal to add them to your car?

Is that right?

Around here (TN), I see a lot of hondas that put those xenon bulbs in, and quite a few times the police had to write a ticket out to them for that "violation". The never stop me because I guess mine is a GS4 with the "factory" HID?

Is there any truth to this? Or are the cops just harrasing the high-school kids with the xenon lamp hondas?

gsintensive, did you just get the actual parts for a Lexus HID that you would get from a dealer and have them installed? Could I order the HID's from the new RX and have them put on my 2000?
