GS400 - 3rd Fastest 4-Door In The World?
#61
Just got this info about the 01 E55 AMG from MB's website:
Performance
0-62.5 mph: 5.7 seconds
Maximum speed:
Automatic: 155 mph
Engine
Number of cylinders: 8
Arrangement: V
Maximum torque (Nm/rpm): 530 / 3000
Fuel consumption (mpg) (automatic)
City: 15
Extra urban: 32.5
Combined: 22.6
I checked the Lexus website also, and it says that the 99 GS400 does 0 to 60 in 5.7 seconds also.
So, I guess the E55 really isn't faster than the GS, there is one thing though, the E55 goes to 62.5mph in 5.7sec, while the GS only goes to 60mph.

Those numbers for the E55 are very conservative. I think most of the bake-offs between the E55 and the M5 have the M5 in the 4.8-5.1 range and the E55 in the 5.1-5.4 range. Acura used to do this with the TL/CL, claiming 0-60 times in the low 7s when they were really in the mid-to-high 6s.
I would say that the GS4 is in the right neighborhood for the E55 after suspension, steering, 18" wheels, TC, LSD, and HFI...perhaps even wedged between the E55 and the M5, but stock (or even just L-Tuned) it's not really a match.
Not trying to down the GS4...just trying to keep us grounded in reality.

Earlier in this thread I posted link that summarized the mag tests of the E55 and several were in the13.4 or less range (maybe it in another thread). Short of forced induction, the GS400 isn't in that league. It has over 350 hp and almost 400 ft. lbs of torque, not to mention its 5.5 liters.

Remember the Hammer?
Remember the AMG Hammer from 86-87. That was my favorite car in HS and probably the reason for the GS400 now. I fell in love with fast sedans. I always daydreamed of dusting the other dad at the light with the carpool in back
My take is to count only the sedans produced by the original developer. AMG and M's would count as production sedans, Renn, SRT and others would not.

the NEW GS430 runs 13.9 in quarter mile!! very amazing, IF an AMG E55 runs at 13.3, think about the 430 after SRT HFI, and the TC along with a performance exhaust. sounds like a match!!.

is it just me or u guys forgot about the 2k2 infiniti Q45...0-60 5.7 secs
how about S600 (5.4) or even S55(5.7) u can say C43 AMG can pretty much keep up wit the GS
of coarse for the price GS400 is the best car ever created. However u can't campare it to the fastest 4 door sedans in the world..One thing for sure though it is the fastest damn car on the road. How many E55s do u see on daily basis??? There is still nothing like a GS, in my view, the world's first "PERFECT" car

Actually the new Q is supposed to run 0-60 in "only" 5.9 secs. It's slightly slower than the GS4. Also, I've spoken to two owners, and both have said that there's no real sensation of speed in the car even with the sport suspension. No doubt it's also an incredible car (although I don't like the external styling), though...

mercedes sucks
i hate our E420. It simply sucks. It took them 7months to fix it after my moms accident, and the airbag still didn't go off. The car is still 1/16in off in alignment, we took after 7 months b/c the body was fixed in 2-3months, but they couldn't get the alignment right. And 7months to fix any car is rediculous
No cd player standard, all the doors unlock if the front passenger opens the door(even while moving, even if it is locked), the rear a/c thing doesn't blow air, no loaner cars, strict on their warranty, and outside temp. display is never right, stupid infrared remote thing really sucks...you can only be 5-6ft away maximum or it doesn't work, the driver side door doesn't have a key part, our 98 Accord's A/C blows harder and cooler than the E420, gets keyed way to many times.
