GS400 - 3rd Fastest 4-Door In The World?
#78
I think some Impala SS's were relatively fast for the size. With pretty basic modifications they can be made pretty quick. I have been on a roadcourse with them a few times and from 20-80mph they are pretty strong. My '91 M5 would usually start to pull at 80mph+ (sweet spot in third gear).
If you race one from a light you will be taking a chance as most aren't stock.
I am sure whitediamond will disagree but he wouldn't admit losing to Schummy.

So, after all these other 4-door additions of the S600, S55, and all, can we please make another list of the fastest 4-door "original production" cars? (AMG and \\M included)
Are you guys not interested in making a list of the fastest CURRENT "original production" 4 door automatics?
and one for 4-door manuals would be nice too...
Even after so many replies on this thread, we still don't have a correct list!

Ok, I think I have finally got it.
The rules:
1. Fast = 0 to 60 times
2. 4-door
3. Automatic
4. Mass-produced (no Bugatti or Kabani Type4, etc!)
5. Currently produced (2001 or 2002 models only!)
6. No aftermarket tunning, ONLY in-house (like AMG, no Renntech, etc!)
And here is the list (correct me if I am wrong please):
1. Mercedes C32 AMG 5.1 sec
2. Mercedes E55 AMG 5.4 sec
3. Jaguar XJR 5.4 sec
4. Audi S8 5.4 sec
5. Audi S6 5.7 sec
6. Mercedes S55 AMG 5.7 sec
7. Lexus GS430/400 5.8 sec
8. Mercedes S600 5.8 sec
9. Audi A8 V12 5.8 sec
Is that right? I am not too sure about the Audis. Also, no BMWs on the list...is that a surprise...BMW is only good on manuals...can't wait till Lexus does something with manuals for all you manual people!
And this is interesting also, if you take out all the sport-tuned ones, such as Audi's S, the AMGs, the supercharged ones, and if you eliminate the V12s...what do you have left?
I can't wait till Lexus comes out with L-tuned versions of its cars! Just imagine, the regular GS430 (no mods) by itself stands a place in that list, where would a GS L-tuned be?

This was all getting ridiculous...either u are talking stock production cars or including ones done up by another party. If that is the case, we cant just even look at lorinser's or renntech's benz...then what about the schnitzer cars? or dinan for that matter. Thats why just looking at stock luxury sports sedans makes more sense. In any case, I hope to god lexus does something to compete with the m5 or the e55....300+ horses used to do it for me, not anymore.

Why oh Why oh Why did you restart a thread that's been dead for over 2 months???
That's like scraping the bottom of a jar for the jello that was formed in the creases - it's all hard and yucky...

jimmy, we all know what you're capable off....yikes...
and what is this thread doing up again? its a year old!
bentley's the fastest? i doubt that. it might have the most power, by a long shot, but not fastest or quickest.
i know there are JDM folks and Euro guys like Richie that'll tell you about stock cars that are faster enough to push the V-8 GS way out of even the top 10, maybe 20

You guys are missing quite a few BMWs on your lineup.
-There's the Hamann 6.2L BMW E39 (does sub 4-sec 0-60)
-Laguna Seca M3 with the gullwing doors (high 3s, i think)
-the $225k M3 GTR (tuned down street legal version)
Then there are cars like the Bentley Continental Turbo, Audi RS6, Audi S8, Audi RS4, Mitsubishi Evo (the Evo6 is absolutely wicked).
A lot will disembowel a GS and hand its entrails back to the driver, but how much more fun do you need out of a sub $50k 4-door sedan with wood interior trim?
