I think 18" is the farthest you could go on a GS without sacrificing too much of the performance side. Maybe 19" would be fine too, but I don't ever think I would want 19" on it.

nanotech, there are some very very light 19's performance wheels that are even lighter or equal the 18''s performance. pretty amazing hun? but they just cost extra~

I don't really know that much about tires or wheels anwyay, its just imo, 18s are safe in rubbing issues.

What are the pros and cons of having larger wheels?

As far as rubbing, that depends on the diameter of the tire of course. With 18s you can have tires that are the almost identical to the diameter of the factory 17s. With 19s it's very close so there's no chance of rubbing.

With 20s it gets tight, but many people report NO rubbing with their 20s also, so I wouldn't worry too much about that issue.

As far as pros and cons on larger wheels...

Pros:
- bigger looks better, although some say 20s look too big, but I was amazed when I saw them in person, they look GREAT.
- 18s and probably 19s will handle better than 17s and definitely 16s. With 20s the wheels can be very heavy and they're more for looks than handling

Cons:
- The bigger the wheel, the rougher the ride in general, although my 18s ride no rougher than the factory 17s.
- More noise - generally tires on bigger wheels are noisier, especially if you go staggered (wider rims on rear) just because there's more rubber and the types of tires for big rims are generally designed for performance rather than quiet.
- EXPEN$IVE tires, and choices get limited as the rims get bigger.

Since you're VERY much into QUIET, I'd suggest you stick with the factory 16s though.

Nanotech, I think you should go with the 17's. IMO 16's is just TOO SMALL for the car. The noise level goes up SLIGHTLY.. hardly noticeable at all.

I had 17's on for a year, and it was perfect for racing, cruising, not worrying that much about potholes (but u can still bend rims even at 16's)

That's it ! Larger wheels make more noise, that's why I had been swaying away from them.

But 16" wheels look too ugly. If I had 16s on my car, I would definitely upgrade to 18" wheels. Nevermind the additional noise, at least it will look much better than 16s, plus it won't sound as bad as 19s or 20s.

I have stock 17" chromes on my GS. They look good, but a "little" small for some reason. But I don't think its all that wise to pay over $3k for just one more inch of wheels.

There is a lot of noticeable noise right now from the wheels/tires, but I think its actually just the tires, which I am going to get replaced soon, (Yokohama AVS dB, Dunlop SP9000, or Bridgestone S-03 Pole Position).

I know 18"/19" wheels will look better, but also handle better than my stock 17s??? Even if everything else is constant, including tires?

Plus like you guys have mentioned, I don't want to worry about potholes, rubbing, harsh&noisy ride, or anything like that. Therefore I think the ideal size of rims is 18".
