okok, guess a lot of questions are answered alreayd, so i will just summarize what i know

dave, yes, that's all the part you need, just the center divider. initially was i was very skeptical whether it's really going to work, but what i can say now is no it's still not perfect but damn is it so much better. other than the foam on the divider, everything else is the same.

but the sad part is you can't just get this part, at least i wasn't able to find or get any part number for it. so it's the whole cupholder assembly. to do that you will have to pull out the whole shift plate area (which will require you to take out the ashtray first) and unscrew the old plate and put on the new plate

I don't get it. If everything is the same, except for the foam, why would you have to take everything apart to get the little divider out? In my car, it just pulls out.

nonono, i was saying if you can't purchase that part in particular, and have to purchase the whole cup holder/shift plate, then you have to pull eveything out. if you can get just the divider than of course you are good to go

for 99 bucks i don't think you get that ring as well. i am not sure what the 99 bucks were. when i did my upgrade it was actually for the chrome ring bezel, but to upgrade i was forced to upgrade the WHOLE shift plate, and that came with the new cup holder piece

so yeah, this was a "by product"

No not on my car both sides have the slim protrusion for the slot. Sewell responded and said I woulD have to buy the entire cup holder thing to update it. My car is one of the first 1998 gs400 made and I guess that those were different. I am going to modify it to make it fit

So this would work on a 99? This has always bugged me a little bit, think it'd be worth the $30 or so.

wow i never knew that it was different, out of all areas to change they pick that part. i have a 02 gs3 with the foam divider and even with a poland spring bottle it still flys away if you accelerate quick or do sudden turns :\ there has to be a better way to keep the bottle in place.

i think im going to find some extra foam and double stick a 1/4 inch of it under the current flaps to give it a "tighter" fit.

Look at the slots on the side one is wider than the other one on the divider sewell sells, now look at the protrusions sticking out on your cup holder if it is like mine it will have two thin potrusions. So when you put the divider into the cup holder it holds the side with the thin slot good but the side with the wide slot can move. If you push the divider firmly down the friction seems to hold it firm but any movement up and it becomes loose (like when you remove your cup) and then can come out easily. Also the corner of the divider rubs the top of the cover as the cover opens not allowing it to open all the way. I am going to get my original divider (the one without the foam) cut out the slot from it and graft it into the new divider, I am also going to sand the bottom a bit to lower it so it won't rub the cover when it opens.
