Default is there any way to compensate for a heavy trunk??

i have a heavy rear end due to extra weight added from the box enclosure of my sound system and the added wood, etc. for the trunk set up. the rear sits noticeably lower now than that of the front. im going at add the l-tuned suspension soon... soo.. my question is:

for anyone with heavier rear ends than front ends, is there any way to compensate that weight so much so that the car looks level again after lowering it with springs/shocks? obviously coilovers would fix this right away but i can only afford the l-tuned set up right now and i already bought it. should i have my installed cut the rear springs? is that a possibility?

FYI the car sits higher out back stock then it does up front..

the car sits raked as is, and the l-tuned just exemplifies it, IMO

the lowering springs coupled with your trunk setup should make your car sit very even

well... i dont know if people would agree with me but if u rear sits low why not just install the front ltuned susp. only and see how that works.

for the safety of your car and your occupants, and the for the sake of not being ghetto,

please don't do that....different spring rates will produce a bouncy messed up ride and it will look like ***

just get coilovers and make the rear higher to match the front. or to your likings.

**EDIT: Sorry, didnt notice you already bought the l-tuned susp.

I would sell it and get coilovers. It might look even in the beginning but with all that weight, the back will start to sag after the springs settle.

eat more carbs =D

in seriousness you may want to get springs in the rear that have a stiffer compression rate.

can you mix/match springs/shocks? kinda sucks cuz i already have the l-tuned package in my hands and im just waiting to have it installed... cutting the springs to make the ride even isnt a possibility? i thought i read somewhere that it was.. anyone else have this problem?

your problem is not springs to shocks match, your problem is the heavy trunk that kick off the balance that all manufaturers design their springs shocks. i don't care what springs/shocks mix you do, the rear of the car is just going to get lower and lower, no hope

the only way to do it is to get coilvoer where you can just lower the rear of the car less than the front. otherwise, with any springs/shocks combo you get out there, it will not be the drop as stated by the manufacturer for sure

so what should i do? i know this has happened to others who have systems too. i cant afford coilovers and i have already bought the l-tuned set up. is it going to look worse? the difference between front/rear is about half an inch to and inch higher in the front over the rear...

It'll be less and also less apparent. Less because the spring rates for the L-Tuned springs are considerably higher than stock (therefore your added weight will not compress them as far) and less visually apparent simply because the whole car is lowered 1.25".

If you were to cut the rear springs, the rear will just sit that much lower; did you mean to cut the front springs??

And as far as mixing springs/shocks, it can be done but unless someone has already determined that the combination is compatible, you're very likely to end up with both crappy ride and unpredictable handling. And I agree with NT2, please ignore joshoowa's advice. While you might achieve a better visual appearance dropping only the front 1&1/4 with L-Tunes in the front, you'd certainly produce dangerously strange handling with those floppy pieces of crap in the rear (which is already compromised with that rear/high weight distribution!!!!

How much do you estimate your added weight to be???

one pretty silly idea i have is to keep the stock springs in the back and just lower the front. but i don't think it's going to look good at all

i dont know exactly how much weight it is.... i have 2 amps, 2 10''' subs and like a crappppppppload of wood back there.... the front end sits higher now cuz i guess the car is semi-slanted.. i dont think a normal person would see it so much as i would since i try to take good care of my car.. but yea... i hope you are right about the springs/shocks since they are stiffer the added weight shouldnt seem so obvious.. thanks ya'll for the help.

thats the thing josh right now i have all my money going into audio/video and i dont have enough to buy coilovers... thats why i got the l-tuned set up. i hope that what they told me that the front sits lower than the rear anyways is true so it compensates. thanks though josh.

Do they make carbon fiber trunklids for our cars? It certainly wouldn't help as much as coilovers but won't cost as much either. Come to think of it our trunks aren't that heavy to begin with though.
