Default Is the new 430 faster than your 98-05GS4**?(Tested 06 GS430 today)

I don't think so. I drove a 2006 GS430 today in the city and on the interstate with a very cool salesman. The car had 200 miles on it so I asked if we should take it easy and he replied it didn't matter because this car was gonna be "tested" no matter what. It is the 1st 06 430 they received and they said they were going to use it purely as a demo till about 5k then sell it preowned.
So. I had a few WOT from stoplight runs and it is quick. My seat of pants meter could not tell any real difference in pull. I think they are almost identical in acceleration. I was also able to floor it from 75mph to 90+ish In that area it almost felt a tad softer to me. May have just been smoother, I don't know.
It was very nice and smooth and rode great for having 18s.
But anyway, my point is I think we(2nd gen GS4**)are still as fast or faster than the new 2006 GS430.

Smile Ads for the new GS

I've been seeing some new GS ads that make the car look really fast.

It has been a long time since I've seen them advertise the GS at all so I think that is really cool.

I've driven GS400 and GS430. IMO-The 430 is faster once locked in gear and rolling. The 400 may have a quicker initial response because of the drive by wire, but that's it. remember, the 430 does have more torque.

It would have to be timed. There are many slower cars that "feel" faster. The new GS weighs basically the same as the old GS with an extra gear (yeah, they bucked the industry and kept the weight down). Lexus says 0-60 in 5.6. The GS 400 did it in 5.7. The GS 430 did it in 5.8.

No magazines have tested the 3GS yet. So we'll see.

Just going by my personal seat-o-the pants test. I drove there in my 430, drove the 06, and left in my 430 again. All I'm saying is I've driven both, back to back, and IMO the 2nd gen has nothing to worry about.
And come on Sick, you know those mag and other published times aren't always right on the money.

oh yah, this is from Lex site-
Performance

2006 GS 430:

- 4.3-liter (262 cubic inch), four-cam, four valves per cylinder 90° V8 engine. Certified Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (U-LEV) ........................

- 0 to 60 in 5.7 seconds [1] ..................

Hey chuck, is that Wilde Lexus that you test drove the new 06? I am going to have to go down there one of these days and check it out. I keep hearing from a lot of people that the car looks better in person so I guess I am going to have to check it out myself. I really like that color that you posted

5.6-5.8 is a wash. It would be no shock to see the same driver pull a 5.6 and then follow-up with a 5.8 or worse. It's not like it's 1/2 sec slower or faster.

I own a 98 GS400 and test drove an 01 GS430 tonight. Guys, come on, they're pretty much the same. We've been having this back and forth discussion in numerous threads over the past few months, and the bottom line is that both cars are downright freakin' fast. Can't we all just get along?

seriously now..... gs400, gs430..... they are just pretty much the same.... i don't think one is faster than the other or vise versa.... imho the deviation in the engine alone will make the difference of which car is faster already......

gs4 has better response, yes. gs430 has more tq, yes. but gs430 ha more restrictive ecu and more conservitive on the shifting. it's just too hard to tell.

oh and the 06? i think it's just as fast as well. the gs460 will be faster
