Are there any brands of floor jacks to avoid? Any brands to recommend? Any idea of price range for a good jack?

Sears is having a sale on floor jack this week. Craftsman 2 1/4 ton compact floor jack with two jack stands is 39.99. 3-ton floor jack is 79.99 and Professional 4-ton floor jack with speedy lift is 99.99.

Thumbs up Floor Jack

I've got a floor jack, but I cannot figure where to put it to raise entire the front end?
Can you raise the whole front?

I must be really old and slow! It takes me about an hour to get all the wheels out of the basement and onto the car, and then put old ones put back in the basement. I've got the 4 way lug wrench too.

$25 seems like a good deal to me.
The problem is if the forecast is for snow the tire shop has lines a mile long.

Thanks for any help telling me where to put the jack to raise the front end

if you car is not low enough i think you can just stick the jack it from the front and jack it up from the bottom of the engine?

Not a good idea. You would crush the oil pan.

Henry this sort of sounds like speculation!

HDDuece is right. You DEFINATELY DO NOT want to jack it up by the oilpan

Henry probably did not have time to elaborate. In the front, you can jack up the car at the crossmember. Of course the rear, as stated earlier, can be jacked up at the differential. This is a diagram of an SC but it applies to the GS too. I use these two points all the time to jack up the whole front or back end.
