What does Platinum Edition mean?

Platinum GS
Originally, the Platinum Series was meant to be the equivalent of the other models COACH editions. Essentially co-marketing campaigns - the COACH editions with COACH leather, and the PLATINUM series with AMEX (Platinum card). Part of the original purchase agreement allowed you the opportunity to have an AMEX Platinum card's annual fee waived for the first year - in addition to all of the other styling differences already mentioned.
Looking at the photo on your post I can say that those are NOT the original Platinum series wheels.

It's good that you don't have the original Plat. Ed. wheels. They're pretty gross IMO. When I bought the GS400 I already had plans for aftermarket wheels so the plat. ed. wheels didn't deter me one bit. Actually it accelerated the modification process.
