Default Lexus Gs400/430 or 2005 Pontiac GTO

I have a 98 Gs400 and I love V8's If I had a choice between these two cars I would pick the Pontiac GTO. The GTO is the Australian built Holdenn Monaro with the Corvette C6 v8 engine. This Car makes a whopping 400 horsepower, and only costs 33,000 bucks. Which will you guys pick and why?

GTO. I would have got one instead of my gs, but cant inport the GTO into canada. I wanted a car with v8 but not something like a corvette that you cant drive in the winter and I wanted back seats.

That new motor in the 05 kicks ***. LS2, titanium engine parts, light for its size. Get cams and exhaust and you have a crazy fast car. Not to mention a bad *** exhaust note.

The interior on the GTO is cool too. The only prob is I think the steering wheel is ugly. But I heard they were going to offter a factory body kit to resemble one of the GTO race cars. With the body kit and a nice set of rims for a car like that would look pretty pimp.

0-60 in 4.8 seconds, sweet exhaust note, V8 rumble, the GTO is a vette in sheeps clothing

No doubt that the GTO is fast but you have to ask yourself if you will be happy driving around in "sheeps clothing"

Sheep this! Check out the dyno;

LS2 and Kooks Dyno Results
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Got my 05 GTO dynoed again after installing the Kooks, CATs, and adding an X-pipe in place of the center resonator.

Baseline: 338 RWHP, 346 RWT.
Now: 359 RWHP, 365 RWT. Not bad and I still have the stock mufflers.

Here is the chart comparing to baseline.

to the power of the 05 GTO
to the plain jane design

The GTO gets 0 attention.

I would hold out for the re-release of the Camaro or Firebird with the same engine and HP and styling.

If you're missing at least one of your front teeth, and you enjoy watching NASCAR, then please do us all a favor, and buy the GTO. With all the money you save, you may even have enough to get a Durango with Jeff Gordon mud flaps.

Thank God, I thought I was in the twilight zone for a minute, Give up refinement for a 100 HP?!?!

I wont even drive a Mercedes anymore cause they **** me off with thier 'quality' and you wann buy a Chevy???

If you're itching for HP and performance get the new IS350 or even get an old IS300 turbo it and blow away all the rednecks you want.

Whatever you do, please dont get a mid-life crisis car.

Sweeeeeet!!! Duz it hav a HEMI?

Mullet-heads...give me a break. Take your skoal and coorslight with your GTO cruzin'. Them gear-heads may be able to push extra horsepower, but never will they get REFINEMENT inside and out.

Never has or will a Pontiac cross my mind in place of a Lexus GS400/430!!!!

I'll keep my used GS400...

That's like comparing apples and oranges.

That power is great to have....but I'd rather get there in comfort and style then just get there quicker.

Hey DASHOCKER, your April fools joke is a little early!

You are comparing apples to oranges here. If you enjoy the harsh ride of "American Muscle" and the noisy dashboard squeaks and rattles, this is a no brainer, go GTO! If you like a quite, luxurious ride, along with enough power to anything you can legally do with a GTO, it's the GS. The only thing that the GTO has over the GS is the HP rating. GM quality can't compare, and as far as resale value, well, I could have bought a Grand Prix, a Z28 and Trans Am for what I paid for my GS. (Yes I'm exaggerating a little!)

Now, if all this is about is the horsepower, buy an old IROC and a 500 HP chevy crate motor! None of your friends will have more power than you. If it's about the overall package, the answer is clear.

i agree with the idea about power and comfort. if you wanr raw power and speed, the gs4 is never a car you should look at. the gs4 is fast, but it's not a pure rocket. i want get the comfort in my gs4 any day
