i got an 1st gen twin-turbo aristo about 4 weeks ago for fun and have been looking more seriously at GS's ever since.
seems to be a good supply of 2nd gen cars at low low prices for what they are. e.g. ~ 12K gets me 2000 Lexus GS 400 "Millennium Limited Edition" Mint Condition. a 2002 mint 55K for the same $$. honda civic money really. same year bimmers are at price premiums of 50% ish. (this is canada)
i have not seen a 2nd gen to look at it in a while, as there very few lexus where i live. but what i suspect is going on here is that the styling of the car might not be drawing buyers to it. i think that the 1st gen car is really a pretty cool design (check out our aristo project) 2nd gen was an in-house chop up. the 3rd gen is more evolution of 1st gen and is pretty much what everybody.. nissan, jag etc. are driving at.
styling is very personal so this is just how i see it, and some of what i have read. And how a car looks in pictures is much different that in real life.
the reputation is of course exemplary. how do they drive?
the modded aristo has sic handling and crazy power, wicked exhaust note and nicely blends racetrack performance with GT driving. handles like my porsche 928GTS and equals it for acceleration, leaves my v8 audi in the dust. ride is a bit twitchy.
just wondering if a second gen could do the same??

My GS400 is on the market now for 8.5K obo and still cannot sell it. It's not like it's got cheap eBay parts or not maintained either. I use HKS, Tom's, or OEM when it comes to modding and i have a complete record book...even almost every gas fill up during my ownership.
