when you swap your motor, do not report it to the DMV. i know it doesnt sound right but if you do, you will have to go the state ref and your smog will have to be set up the same as the 01. this may cost more money and down time. basically, you can only drop in a motor the same year or newer than your car. the smog equipment must be set up the same as the year of the motor that youre dropping in. ive done a bunch of swaps on other cars and im sure the smog equipment is different from your 98 to a 01. just make sure that you do a compression test, do a full tune up and change all the belts and the timing belt, check all the hoses for cracks and make sure you have all the parts before you drop it in. once the motor is in the car, it much harder to change things out.
if it was me, id rebuild the motor and put more goodies in there.

to make it legal, you gotta swap a motor that is the same year or newer from your make class.
Toyota/Lexus.
You will need all the smog equipment for the specific year of the car.
After Everything is hooked up. You will have to get it BAR Certified (Bureau AutoMotive Repair)
by the state Ref.
Once they inspect it and you pass the visual and sniffer. They'll give you a cool little sticker to stick on the door jams. Stating you got lets say a 2jz-GTE. So if you ever get pulled over and cops pop your hood. Just show them that sticker.
Me and my friends got motor swaps on our hondas.
One of them is a H22a (prelude motor) in a 92 Honda Accord
SOme got B18c (Acura Integra GSR) in a 88-91 Honda CRX
All Bar Certified with the JDM motors.

Well, I am definately not going to swap a diferent motor. I want to keep the same.. I am told that as long as I get a 7-00 and older(98-00) then I should be fine. I found one with 78K miles still in the car and runs perfect(side collision). I am told $1500 plus deposit of $200. I am just confused on the accessories. What is the motor come with id there are no accessories included?

I know that you have to use the Aristo Motor Mounts with it correct? What about ECU and stuff. What did you use?

I am going to try and do a write up. I want to have good diagrams if I do it and I havn't purchased the Lexus electronic manual yet. The physiscal swap was easy the motor mounts are the same. The trany mount is different, but the ruber part is the same. The trany is longer and requiers the Aristo Drive shaft. The fuel system requires a return line that the car does not have. This was the trickiest part and would be the only thing that coulden't be done by the average do it yourself type.
