Default ? on buying 99 Gs 400

Just drove a GS 430 today and WOW!!!!. No wonder you guys like these cars. They were asking to much and they didn't except my offer... Anyway he said they just got a 99 GS 400 in white and Tan, spoiler, 17's, Nachami stero, 51,000 miles. He said I would love the car and it was just as nice as the 01 430 I drove.... He said 22,500 and I can have it. What is your opinion on the price.... KBB was 25,490. So i think 22,500 is a good price considering the GS is hard to find for a good deal. He said owned by Doctor with no accidents etc.. I still want a car fax though..

Thanks guys..... I think i found my GS.......

You might want to post this in the general GS300/400/430 forum as opposed to the classified section. I think you'll get more responses over there. Assuming the car checks out, that's not a bad price, but I've seen 99s with slightly higher miles going for a few thousand less (like in the upper teens, maybe 19-20 range). Those may have been private party sales as opposed to a dealership, which could explain why the one you're looking at is a little higher. Anyway, let's see what everyone else has to say. Sounds like a nice car.

No, I can't, but the mods can. Or, you can just start a new thread over in the other forum. Just curious, how did you find the car? It seems like there are a lot of cars out there, but many never hit the Internet so they're hard to find.

Thanx davgs4 . Well i found the car 20 min. north of where i live at a dealer thats sells Lexus, and mercedes. I drove the 01 GS 430 but that was really out of my price range... 22,500 is right where i need to be plus insurance will be less i hope. My 97 ES 300 is 155.00 a month with clean record.. Thats kinds hi for a almost 30 yr. old male... The 99 is just like the 01 from what the salesman said. Maybe even better since the 01 didn't have spoiler, 17's etc.... So maybe this car is just what i want........ Thank tmf

i'm still young and learning but from what i've gathered here on CL, that seems to be fair but a little high as already stated. It's not bad but maybe a grand cheaper and it would be better.

Yea i know. I asked if we had room to work with and he said that that was the final price.. After seeing the KBB i feel like I'm getting alittle bit of a deal.. Besides I've been looking for a while and once you find something you like you got to have it... I'm sure you been that route before. I'm probably going to buy the extended warranty also. Good for 6 yrs.... Don't know if its bumper to bumper though.... Thanks tmf

Black Book says $22,765 (extra clean), $22,150 (clean) retail and $18,995 (clean) trade-in. Here are some samples that I found at autotrader with the power search:

Thanks gs400998. Those look like some good deals but this place is 1o miles from by house so convience is nice.. I thought about that getting one up north and having it shipped but you don't know what your getting you know... I also did edmunds.com and found 21,521 for private party and 24,520 for dealer retail.... Maybee I offer 22,000. This is a cash deal so the salesman should jump on it....

The 99 GS400 may be a little quicker then the GS430 from what I have read and heard although I am not sure why. Maybe slightly different gearing or different engine tune, doubt the 430 weighs much more. Just because KBB lists a certain price does not mean that people are going to pay that price or near it for every car. Since it is a 99 with over 50,000 miles and no navigation or HID's I would still try to get the guy to go a few thousand lower. $19,000 would seem to be a pretty good price and like some members have said they do go for lower prices you just have to deal and wait some stubborn people and dealers out. I've seen used GS priced way too high sitting on lots with only slight reductions in price for over 5 months, eventaully some dealers come to their sences and have to offer a good deal to sell the car. I would still run a carfax and make sure all VIN #s match and have an inspection by a reputable dealer. I think interior wise the 2001+ GS has a nicer steering wheel and a slightly different gauge cluster with chrome rings. Good Luck.

F.Y.I.

I bought my '99 GS400 with 34,500 miles in early Dec for 21,000. HID's, 16's, non-nav, no spoiler. Gotta go

Thanks guys. Really I'm getting alot less than that because I'm selling my ES 300 for 10 or 11,000. So that will bring back some peace of mind in the financial department. All you guys are right something fishy here in florida. I still think 22,500 is not that bad for a low milage 300 HP Lexus. I've had american cars all my life and Lexus is the best way to go... Thanks again....

hmm.. i dont think so. Although both GS models use the V8, the 430 has more torque compared to the 400. The 99 GS400 does have the steering wheel shift buttons which is always a plus but compared speed wise, the 430 should be slightly, everso slightly quicker.

Briangs430
That puzzles me because the 430 has the 4.3 and the 400 has the 4.0 both with equal HP ratings. I would think the 430 would be faster. I agree with you...
