Default OMG A/C problem : * (

Well where do I start. My a/c is not working since last summer. Now I thought it was just a leaky freon pipe, so today I decided to take it to my local shop to have them find the hole. Then the shop calls me and the mechanic tells me the problem is not with the lines but the Evaporator Core, they said its leaking and it has to be replaced. The core its self costs 358.20 and they want 900.00 for 7.5 hours of work . Im just depressed right now because just yesturday I had a tune up done on the car and this is just braking my heart literaly. Im wondering if a dealer can offer me some insentive maybe, because in my opinion since the part is located in such a unreachable place it must be considered reliable and im totaly not willing to pay 1,371.88 to get this fixed so if anyone one here has any suggests I would really apreciate it. And if the price has to be payed im going to sell the car and get another one maybe il try to trade it at the dealer just so they get stuck with fixing this damn thing because after all they overcharge us, so why not let them work it of.

what year is the car? Maybe the dealership will give you a better deal, or you can find a Lex mechanic or a good shop who will work on it.

The shop is charging you 120 dollars an hour, I believe Lexus charges around 100 or so.

Nah the shop is charges like 75 dollers an hour I believe, they said they also have to change evaporator expansion valve because it "might" be leaking also and it should be changed just in case so thats an extra 4.5 hours of work so it all comes out to 1371.88. Im thinkin of buyin the evaporator my self and gettin a good price on the install. Im not sure yet.

man, i remember this problem... i purchased a 1995 mazda millenia back in 2001 and everything checked out and looked good when i purchased the car. then the summer time came and i put the a/c on, and NOTHING. i charged the a/c and by the next day, it was not working again so i took it to a shop and they told me the evaporater and they fixed it for me... i was 18 at the time, and had to pay around $800 for it there is NO WAY around it if you want your a/c to work. sorry man.
