Default Trunk lid hinges - anybody got a pic?

Going through galleries etc now, but looking for a good picture of the GS trunk hinges.

I want to prop my trunk open halfway during HIN in Charlotte tonight, and trying to find a way to do it without putting a prop stick underneath it.

In the LS, the hinges fold into part of the body... if I could put a clamp on them at a certain spot, it would stop the trunk from closing. In the GS, I recall they are a bigger U shape, but I've never watched to see what they do when the trunk closes - if there is a place I could attach a clamp that would stop the closing action.

Thanks in advance for any pictures or ideas!

I have one like this one, but doesn't show what happens underneath the lip where you can't see it from outside.

Lol Chuck too funny. Just take your key so you can pop it remotely.

Basically under the inside edge of the trunk where the rest of the hinge is so I can see the motion when it closes. I want to figure out if I put something like a C -clamp on the hinge in the right spot, will it stop the trunk from closing about 1/4 or 1/3 of the way down.

Don't try it yourself unless you have rubber pads on your C-clamps - don't want to mess up your paint.

My car is locked in the HIN facility right now for the show tonight or I would just go look myself... should have thought of this earlier.

Thanks guys.

Perfect, thanks Chuck!

Doesn't look like the C-Clamp idea will work.... from the appearance of the mechanism, it pivots when the trunk closes and the hinges stay full exposed / just run along the top of the trunk.

Excellent idea! What size wrench are you using there? Craftsman?

Did you need to do it on both sides, or did it hold (and look straight, no sagging) with one?

How far did the trunk close? Looking for prop 3/4 open so people can see the badging and backup camera, but still see inside for ICE.

Just curious because I'd hate to see such a beautiful car have an small detail that could be detrimental in competition. I guess Dave could always wrap the wrench in black electrical tape or spray paint it black (if he has the time or materials) to mask it.

ok the size wrenches i used are 3/8 -7/16 open-ended thr wrench measured 4 3/4 inches long

but i think that is too low so in these shots i used a 1/2x9/16 open-ended wrench

which measured 5 1/2 inches long

the other wrench(4 3/4 one) would have put it more than 3/4 of the way done

but Dave im sure if you bought a set you could find the right angle you liked

and if you dont want them Sears has a great return policy

here is the wrench but like you said ..he could do what it takes to make it less visible
but i doubt anyone will really see it

Excellent, I'll take a couple with me. No need to buy 'em, I seem to collect them and have three full sets of craftsman box end wrenches floating around the house.

I carry a roll of electrical tape in my spare tire wheelwell, I'll wrap it when I get there.

Adding to packing list for when I leave in 45 mins. Damn, better get packing
