I purchased a navi dvd on ebay, version 04.1 but after getting it found out that it would not work in my 2001 GS430... apparently it only works in the Gen4 navi system (which I guess the 2001 does not have). I see other dvd's out there that are version 04.1 and they state that it will work with 2001+ Navigation systems. I also see that www.lexus-parts.com sells version 04.1 for the 2001 GS430. Just wondering if there is a version of the 04.1 update for my 2001 or if I need to get an older version. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had this same problem on my 01 GS430... I called the dealers and they have no idea about the part number on the disk they just know which one works for what type of year car...well what ur looking for is a generation 3 DVD Update the generation 3 is from 2001-2003 Lexus Cars. Basically the part number will have a 86271-XXX33..the 33 at the end is the key as it is the most recent update you will need...if u look at the disk there a some dots you will see on it like a turquouise color the disk u got from ebay are positioned at 7 o'clock this will tell you that it is for the generation 4 dvd... you will be looking for dots that are at about 2 o'clock and a part number that ends with 30,31,32 or 33...33 is the most recent..hopes this helps

that's right, for teh 01 it has the 3rd gen nav and you need something with 3x in the back on part number

but i also "heard" that from 03 to 05, the nav system is a bit different from that of the 01 and 02 and they use different dvd disc?

for sure the 4th gen nav is completely different from that of the 3rd gen. i have that on my sc430 and it even looks different i believe

Thanks for the info. I just purchased one off of ebay... according to the seller it is the 04.1 version that is compatible with the Gen3 Navigation system.

Part # on the Gen4 that I purchased is 86271-33043 464210-0530 DATA Ver.04.1
Part # on the one I just purchased is: 86271-33033 464210-0510 DATA Ver.04.1

So it looks like this new one is the correct one for my Navi system. Thanks again for the great info.

Got the dvd this morning, put it in and it upgraded perfectly. Haven't had a chance to play with it yet. Is there a good source somewhere that will show me all the new features?

sorry for bringing this back from the dead but i need to get this straight before i plunk down the cash...

for a 2001 GS430 what is the correct upgrade disc for my navigation? do i get 4.1? do i stay with 3.X? somebody please explain what disc i need so that my maps are updated but all functions STILL WORK...thanks!
