Unless you have the shop manual AND the scanner, I'd let the dealer fix it.

the car was running rough and lacked the power it should have had so I was told on CL that it is most likely the TPS. As a result, I ordered one from Carson and tried to put it in on my own and thought I had everything good (only 2 screws and detach the existing connector) but when I went to start the car up, I have no response from the throttle whatsoever and lights came up.

will need to call AAA to have them tow the car (on a flatbed) to the dealer tommorow to get this fixed.

I wish I had just taken the new TPS and gone to the dealer to install but was led to believe that it was possioble to install the TPS on my own and then only IF NECESSARY, go to dealer for calibration.

I freaked out when the same thing happened to my car after I disconnected the TPS for removing the fuel rail. Pull the ECU fuse, disconnect the negative battery cable for 15 minutes, then reconnect both. See if that solves it, it did for me.

that's worth a try. I'd wait like an hour though.

Yeah, what you're waiting for is any capacitance in the electrical system, including internal capacitors in components, to discharge fully. Any residual charge could keep the ECU, etc, from resetting (fully). Most of the time about 30 secs is all you need. If you want to be really sure and you have time to spare, an hour is not unreasonable.

yup, it stores power for a while somehow. last time I reset the ecu in my car, I waited like 20-25 minutes and when I put fuse back in(ECU-b), my radio and seat and clock were not erased. I did it again and waited like 45 min and it was all reset again.

It under hood fuse block on passenger side. on backside of cover when you take it off, they are marked, you will see ecu-b fuse.

Wouldn't hurt to ask.
Wouldn't he only be a 'good customer' if he'd taken it to the dealer in the first place for *service*?

Ted - sorry bud but you're out of your depth (especially if you can't find the ECU fuse). You took a chance and advice off the internet - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Take it in and get it fixed and pay the man.

Update:

Of course, I found the ECU-B fuse and took it out and also disconnected the negative terminal on the battery and waited an hour.

Result.......................................................IT WORKED!!!
when I started up the car, the throttle engaged and I was able to drive it to the dealer.

The dealer had a tech take a 5 minute drive with me to try to see the engine hesitation problem and he was able to feel what I'm experiencing but when they hooked-it up to the computer, it showed no codes, so they said to wait until alight comes on and then to bring it in to the dealer.

I really appreciate everyone's help, especially that of NICOLA, because I was all set to get the car towed to the dealer and with the extensive body work on the car, I just know that something would have ben damaged during the tow.

PS - I'm not as clueless on the car as I came off in my posts. When I asked about the fuse box, hadn;t yet looked under the hood of the car since I have it garaged a few minutes from my home and just wanted to get the info before I went to the car. It was simple to find and take out.

Initially, I was a bit panicked b/c when I went to start the car, after having replaced the TPS, i had no throttle response whatsoever, I didn;t know what the heck had happened.

Thanks for the feedback ted
That was a "cheap" fix (resetting the ecu), wasn't it?

GS3TEK:

You are absolutely right on that and I really do appreciate your help.

Last thing I wanted to do was get the car towed 35 miles to the dealer.

Having a body kit and lowered ride are nice but thats not a good combo for towing.

Peace,

Ted
