wow, this got resurrected from last summer... anyways, my two cents about the AVelectronic unit. The picture is "acceptable," but it's a bit blurry and dark compared to the stock Nav screen, so you are always having to switch up the contrast settings anytime you are going from video to Nav or vice versa. This is because it is converting composite signal into RGBs and you are bound to lose quality.

I wasn't happy with this, so I tried using the VAIStech unit with the XM radio input. The video was a tad bit better, but wasn't good enough for me...so I was weighing my options. Then some time later, I had gotten into modding Xboxes and noticed the thread about installing an Xbox.

What is nice about doing the Xbox is that you can take the component outputs and convert them directly to RGBs (with the help of an Audio Authority 9A65)...and let me tell you, the picture is AMAZING compared to the AVelectronics/VAIStech unit. It is quite a bit more work than plug-in a play, but its worth it. The clarity and brightness is on par with the Nav screen graphics, so I don't need to adjust the contrast/brightness between the video/Nav.

The only other issue I had was the fact that I didn't have a way to output composite (since I was using the component cables) for the headrest LCD monitors. After some research, I found a cheap RGBs to composite converter that was originally used for converting JAMMA arcade video to be used on regular tvs.

So all-in-all, I wish I would've started with the Xbox...I have my MP3s (with visualizations), games, and movies with it...all without switching discs everything is stored on the 250GB hard drive...I'm waiting to install a 400GB for more movies/tv shows.

EDIT: Here a pic that I've posted up before on previous threads

TranMan, two questions for you:

Where did you put your Xbox in the car? Is it still usable/accessible?

I have a soft modded Xbox, will I need to go to full mod to gain full advantage?
