BOSCH Platinum +4 causing detonation problems
So yah.
Recently I had spark plugs, timing belt, serpentine belt, water pump, thermostat, and all fluids changed (ala 90K service). It was done by my brother's friend, who was an ex-Toyota technician, and is capable of building a high-hp SupraTT in his house garage.
He warned me about BOSCH plugs that might not work well on the GS.
After a few days of smooth operation, I start feeling this "slip" that's coming from either the serpentine belt or some pulley. Went back to the technician, test drove the car, found out that the car was actually mis-firing.
So I need to get some Denso plugs and that should solve it.
From his experience, Japanese cars sometimes don't work too well with BOSCH plugs. His SupraTT, Evo, Celica ALLTRAC, and now my GS.
So beware. I don't know if all GSs are like this, but it's something to watch out for.

Bosch Platinum +4's and etc don't work well with Toyota engines in general. There's a known issue amongst Camry & Solara owners as well regarding these plugs. Stick to what factory specs recommend whether if it's regular Denso or NGK, Platinum, Dual Tipped Platinum, OEM Iridium or etc.

I think the 2nd gen GS3 requires a spark plug of a certain design. I remember seeing in the Owner's Manual a picture of the GS3 plug, it has two electrodes, not one like a standard plug. They probably engineered it like this so the spark can ignite the air/fuel mixture at a specific angle so it swirls in a certain direction creating more power. Who knows , but I wouldn't put anything other than Lexus/Toyota parts in my engine.
I'm glad to hear you got the problem solved. I bet your car is running like a champ now
