Default Older year but lower milage or slightly higher milage but newer year

I see a lot of 98-99 GS400 that are in my price range with half way decent milage, I'm trying to find one that's under 70k. There are a y2k GS out there that are priced right as well but in the 85k miles range. Would there be any reason to hold out and find a low milage Y2K GS4 vs buying a 98-99 GS4.

Beside the year difference are there any reason why I should wait?

If I remember correctly the y2k GS4 is slightly faster than the previous years. correct me if I'm wrong.

Nope. Should be the same. I think 2000 is the year brake assist was added to the car.

If you are keeping the car til forever....get one with high miles. If you plan on trading it or selling it eventually, you'd get a better priced on a later model or one with fewer miles..

tough call

The mileage really dont matter on these cars. If you are deciding between a 2000 and a 99, I personally would go with the 99 just because its cheaper. What you should check is the condition and see if it was well taken care of. Maintainence records are usually hard to get a hold of though.

yup very tough, I had a y2k GS4 so I was hoping to find its' twin, silver on grey platinum edition. I like the leather of the Platinum better again correct me if I'm wrong only the platinum have the tiny holes in the front seats (forgot what they're called). I don't plan on driving it forever but I do plan on driving it for a few years. Forever to be with a call is just too long. LOLZ

BTW: I drive on average 100 miles per day, so i'll be throwing in at least 30k miles a year. Maybe that will also illiminate some of the factor. But it's just the piece of mind when you know you bought a car with lower milage and from then on take good care of it.

Do you mean ANY y2k has the perforated leather? That's strange because I've seen some y2k w/o them. That's why I was lead to think that only the Platinum edition would have 'em.

No question I'd get the newer model with higher miles, as long as you can make sure it was maintained properly. I drive all highway miles, I put on about 20K per year, so I'm over 100K now on my '99 GS, but you'd be hard pressed to tell how old it is since it's been maintained properly. Make sure fluids have been changed regularly and the car is in good cosmetic condition.

Low miles are nice to have too, I guess it depends on the specifics. I think only Plat and SD GS3s have perforated leather seats

I think all 02 or 03 and up GS430 have perforated leather. which is a bummer to me, I like the cleaner "regular" leather. The perf leather looks dirty to me.

Honestly you either way you go you wont be disapointed...

I bought a 2000 GS w/ 30k miles... and a 99 GS w/ 70k miles... Both amazing cars and both 0 problems..

Just try to find a clean one w/ maintinence records of some kind..

Good luck.

to me i would prefer to have a older yr but less mileage than higher miles on later yr. as long as the body condition is good, older yr is no problem

Most of us here use there gs as there daily driver so the miles will rack up regardless I bought my 98 Gs300 with 81k a little over a year ago the seller was honest private seller who gave me every single service record the car had ever had in its life a whole folder full all dealer work. I now have 110k and probably couldnt sell it for nearly as much as it means to me to have such a great car at 19. Buy any of them if you know you will be keeping it for a while like someone posted earlier.

I would prefer higher mileage and newer than older with less miles. Here are the reasons. Never cars = more tech, more time to resolve old problems. Nothing major on the lexus, but there must be something they made better.
Higher mileage in less time means that the car was used on the highway more. Long distance driving. An older car was used much less, and most likely in city traffic.

Go with the newer car.
