Default Nak stereo cuts out at high volume

I've had this annoying problem of my Nak amp cutting out for a few seconds...makes this aweful clicking sound...then its back on and ok. This will continuously repeat if I leave the volume up. Always happens when I'm rockin it loud and the outside air temp is 80+ degrees. I notice the front-end face inside the cabin is very warm. Never happened in the cool fall or spring weather in New Hampshire, but now living in Florida it a real issue. If I leave the volume down it never cuts out. Definitely a cooling issue on the amp or frontend...both if they're integrated.

Wondering if anyone else had this experience with their Nak system and was able to fix it. I'm happy with the stereo...for now. Plan to upgrade it someday.

i had this same problem...the conditions for my problem. We were sitting at a park with the music loud and the trunk closed...i opened the trunk when it started happening and the amp WAS FRIGGIN HOT!!!!!!!!...i mean smeltering....so...i think most likely its a cooling issue with the car sitting still...correct me if i'm wrong but i think there are some exhaust vents in the rear qtr panels, but when your sitting still there is no air movement

has anyone thought of putting a quiet fan near the exhaust to create air flow around the amp? and if someone has...do you have pics?.

Sounds to me like you're experiencing "clipping", which is usually caused by overheating.

I haven't. But I'd say sockfocks has the right idea of putting a fan near the amp to help cool it down. It would require bringing cabin air to the amp heat sink. Another thought would be to mount a larger heatsink (simple fan cut aluminum block) to the amp, but would require a good thermal connection with the amp to sink.

I'm personally saving $$$ for a stereo upgrade and mounting amps in the trunk. I need a better setup to rock at high volume!!! It would be easy to get cabin air into the trunk.

"Clipping... ten yard penalty."

Sounds like the amp is being overdriven and is clipping. That's the Nak for you. I (and others) have found that it will do this at volume **** setting clockwise of about 2:00.

Time to upgrade!

Ha Ha! Yep, I also strongly believe its the amp. Upgrade is a must. Like to do an alpine frontend tuner/CD/equalizer/crossover...6 or 8 alpine speakers...1 or 2 MTX subwoofers...2 or 3 alpine amps in the trunk.

I haven't had this problem with my Nak, but did have a similar problem with my 4Runner I stretigically installed a couple of these to move the air and all has been well since. There should be enough room to wire them up close to the amp and draw the power from the remote turn-on wire
