Default 98 w/ Nav or 99 w/o Nav

Guys,

Sold my SC400 and am ready to take a leap over to the GS world!

I have read all of the links supplied in previous threads and also searched ( as everyone likes newbies to do!!)

I have the option of a 98 with Nav or a 99 w/o Nav. Both are basically the same price with basically the same miles and condition.

My questions is this - is it worth it to get the 98 just because of the NAV? Or should I go with the slightly newer 99?

I used to think I would love having a TV/DVD player in my car so I had one in my SC400 and never really used it. I don't know if I would ever use the NAV, or whether I just want it b/c it looks cool.

Which would you do?

Thx,
Jonny

Buy the 98 with navi, you will apreciate it. The 99 is one year newer but the if you look at the big picture there both 6 and 7 years old, for resale value Maybe the 99 would be a better choice. You never specified which gs it is 300 or 400? if its the 400 then the one with the navi most likely has high intensity discharge headlights, but even if it doesnt it sitll has the navi which a 1200 doller option I believe. Go with the 98

Hey man,

Sorry - it is the 400. Yeah, the 98 says it has 4100k HID's which I am guessing are stock - are they? I never found out for sure if there were any differences between a 98 and a 99. I am guessing there are not?

Thx for the advice,
Jonny

Well I would go with the 98 with Nav. Unless you plan on upgrading to another head unit or something then I would not. By the way you are talking I would say you will not upgrade. The coolness factor with people when they see the nav is always neat and I love the touch screen. There are also other options out there if you ever want to turn your stock Nav into a DVD screen with back up capability as well. If you want to know how shoot me a PM and I will send you all the info I have on this.

See the 98 has HID thats another 1200 dollers, so you get hid and navi vs 99 with out hid and navi..... 98 hands down go put in a downpayment right now . oh and no Hid is not stock by any means, I think it is on the 06 gs but in 98 you had to dish out quiet alot to get HID, man your gettin navi and hid dont pass deal.

HIDs are not standard on the GS400s, although the later ones seem to be configured that way. They became officially standard on the GS430s.

These were the changes listed on the Lexus website:

Changes Made To The 1999 GS 400
- Adoption of daytime running lights
- 50-state emission certification
- Transitional Low-Emission Vehicle (T-LEV) certification
- Floor mats standardized

We've noticed on CL, though, that some early production 99s did not have DRLs.

If you're not going to get a Navi, you might as well buy an M3 reliability is one thing that sets Lexus from thier German counterparts but the Navigation blows them away, if it wasnt for Navi in my GS I'd be driving something else.

The Navigational package was retailed $7K back in 99. If both 98 and 99 are in the same condition, get the 98 with the navigation system.

Get the 98 with Nav....it's not like having video monitors in your car, this is something that you can and will use alot.
