Whats up guys,

Can someone tell me what are good tires for the stock 16 inch wheels. I really dont know anything about tires and i need them bad
I have stock tires on now(i believe goodyear). And also what does all those numbers mean ,I was checking on tirerack.com and saw this P215/60R-16 94V . I only figured out the "16" Iam assuming its the tire size

What would be the difference between 215/60-16
and 225/55-16

Can someone explain to me what those numbers mean and how does it affect the tire(looks,performance,ect..)

thanks,
Cams

sure, i also need new tires for my GS, but here in Canada our GS300s come stock with the 225/55 tires

225 is the width of the tire from side to side in milimeters, so 22.5cm is how wide my tires is, yours is 21.5 tires always come in .5, 30.5 29.5 (305, 295) are examples.

the 30-60 is the "aspect ratio" this tells how high the sidewall is. It tells you this in a percent. for example 265/30/19 would be about eqal to 235/35/19 because it is only 30% of 265 milimeters, where as with 235/35/19 its 35% of 235 milimeters, making in about the same number. If you want to calculate it out for your wheels the best size would be 225/55/16 not 225/60/16 because 225/55 is off by 1.5% whereas 225/60 is off by 1.8% one is too slow, and one is too fast.

A lower aspect ration means smaller sidewals which means it will look better, and generally perform better due to less sidewall movement.

If the tires are wider it generally looks better and performs better in turning.

If tires are bigger with bigger rims you must have a smaller aspect ratio than stock, for example if you have 215/60/16 and you want 215 on a 19 inch rim you need to lower your aspect ration to 40 from 60 to have about the same overall diameter.

the R is the speed rating ZR and Y are the top speed rations, in excess of 180MPH R is something like 140MPH.

so the difference between the two tires are that one is 1 cm wider and has the same sidewall height even though it has a lower aspect ratio.

I hope this has helped, manaray and all other tire/wheel gurus, did i get it all?

when I had to get new tires I was deciding between the original 215/60/16 and 225/55/16.

Finally got the best of 2 worlds....... 225/60/16

Go with either Yokohama AVS dB (quiet) or Bridgestone Potenza RE730 (good performance)

I have dBs now and they're great.

Thumbs up More info on what those siwall numbers mean

The Tire Rack is an excellent source for tire info (though I am not sure how objective their tire tests are...)

check out this link for more "tiretech" than you ever wanted:
