the g35 sedans all have like 260hp. the coupes range from 270 to 298hp, depending on year. i think all sedans are automatic, but coupes are either manual or automatic.
anyways, a gs400 can definitley take an automatic g35 coupe. i raced my friend's g35 coupe (manual) and barely edged him out in a race (like by the length of my hood). 1sicklex is right, you need to be ready to launch in order to win!

I'm fortunate to have both cars, G35 sedan 6MT and a GS300. They are apples and oranges. If you are only looking at pure speed&power, get a new G35 coupe.
The differences are endless. The GS is a luxury sports sedan, bigger, smoother, well-rounded. The G35 is a pure sports performance car, sport-tuned, agressive, quick, but smaller and bumpy. I'd recommend test driving them. You'll see what I mean.

One of my best races vs a G35 sedan, we really went at it (doubling the speed limit) and I came from behind and whooped him. What made this challenging was the road was curvey, not some straight road. Thanks goodness for mods, b/c I would have felt less confident in a stock GS handling wise.
We spoke and the guy was just shocked at what happened, he thought he was gonna beat me senseless. No badges helps I guess.
The car is very good, the steering feel is good and IMO, handles like a L-tuned GS with WHITE TRD sway bars. The TRD blue sway bars really turn the GS into a handling beast.
G35= incredible car, Nissan really hit the nail on the head with it. Stock, this car is perfect handling and speed wise for just about everyone.

Both 2005 G35 coupe & sedan 6MT bumped to 298 hp, but peak torque dropped to 260 lb.ft.
