however, sad to say, it didn't really do much in my case. maybe it helped a bit, but i did a 9 location tests before and after the mod and the results were pretty much the same before and after
but by comparison, putting the key against my chin made it work like a charm, even from like 70 fit away
for the record though, as long as there is another vehicle in between me and my car, or if i am over 40 or 50 ft away from my car, it gets hard to trigger the remote

Does it trigger under 40 feet? If I could get mine to work even at 40 feet that would be a major improvement for me. Mine does not work over 20 feet. I certainly don't consider 40 feet short!
I will be doing this mod today and will let you all know the difference it makes.

comparing to my is300 and sc430 this is still weak

One would not expect to gain anything by grounding the antenna. The only possible gain, I can think off would depend upon length of the wire added to the coil .... [certain length may even make the reception worse].
just my 2cents but then why am I argueing with success.

it's weird tho, my gf has a 98 gs300 with no tinted windows and i have a 98 gs400 with tinted windows. her range on her car is like at least 4 times greater than mine. i still think it has to do with the type of materials used in window tints.
