I ran my wire from top to center console, because I'm using the connector for both main unit and display, you can see the connector at the picture I post bottom right hand side.

I did hook up my friend's GS430 use power from center light console. I think you need to take out the clear light cover first and there are two screws you need to take it out first, then you can pop up the plastic cover (Homelink) from the top left top corner. You need to connect the two wires to mirror wires itself. Hope this help.

Does the clear plastic cover over the dual map lights just pop out or do you have to pry it open from a certain corner or edge? If I understand you correctly once the cover is removed there should be 2 screws that you have to remove before you can pry off the homelink cover? What do you mean by popping the top left top corner? The cover is at the top of the car, are you refering to forward or aft? I am still too chicken to try and pry /pop these covers off, so any additional help would be appreciated. Thanks for the info so far.

if you want to connect your radar with constant power, you can just pop the homelink cover, but if you want your radar off when your ignition is off, you need to connect to rearview mirror. Here are some pictures to show how to take out the cover. hope this help.

Thanks for the pictures. I am still a little confused. where do you tap into the mirror wires? Are they behind the homelink after you remove the 2 screws? Are they behind the clear plastic cover for the 2 map lights and I just need to pop the home link cover in order to rout the radar detector wire from the windsheild mount through to the map light area?

when you take the console out you will see 4 wire that connect to rearview mirror (first picture, black tube wire on the back of homelink wire, red, black, blue, and yellow). connect red wire(+)from the rearview mirror to green wire from V1, and connect black wire(-) from the rearview mirror to red wire from V1.

I'm sorry about all these questions, since it is no doubt clear to every one except me. Are you saying I should pop the homelink cover and the clear lens for the map lights than remove the entire over head console to get to the mirror wires or are they accessible by just popping the homelink cover? When I do get to the mirror wires do they have enough slack so its easy to splice into them? The last 1/2 dozen cars I've owned all I had to do was tap into the wires routed up behind or above the mirror, but Lexus has done such a tidy job covering the wires I can't get to them without fear of breaking something.

it easier to connect to the mirror wire with all the overhead console are remove, after removing everything it easy and connect both wire together.

I don't know since you don't have NAV on your car, do you have compass on your rearview mirror, if you do have compass on your rearview mirror I don't know there might be more wires to it, make sure and double check the +, - wires.

What about the Escort Passport 8500???? At radartest.com it was rated #1 over V1, etc. Will it automatically shutoff?

I am just about to attempt this myself, and I see the 4 wires from the mirror side(red, black, blue, and yellow). The V1 connector has 2 wires, red+black, and the black has a U shape connector at the end, which I am assuming it's ground. I am a bit confused as to which wire goes to which.

First, there is no green wire from V1. According to above, there would be a green and red wire on the V1 side, which is different than what I have.

and I thought you always connect + to +, - to -, but according to above, the black wire (-) from rearview to red from V1, isn't that reversed?

second, there are 2 mounting screws inside the homelink cover once you pop the homelink off, are they grounded? I can't see if the other end of the screw is screwed into metal. Can I connect the black wire with the u-shaped connector to these screw as ground?

thanks alot

I've got red+black on my V1, so is it safe to say that red is (+) and black is (-)?

So, + with +, red from mirror to red from V1, and
- with -, black from V1 to mounting screw?

thanks for your help,
