The reason I have this display install is because I don't want cop to see I have a radar in my car at night.

Hey, that looks really good there, how did you manage to put it there and it still functioning like it should be? I am basically a newbie when it comes to any types of mods and I am interesting in purhchasing a radar detector and had my mind on the Cordlesss Solo, since I hate cords, but after seeing yours, maybe I'll change my mind. Thanks.

Nice work ! I love it .
Especially the wood trim set up around
the radio section. The unit indeed has
enough space to sqeeze in.
Thank you for your excellent example.
Where is the V1 located in the car any way ?

I still have to install the V1 radar on the windshield, right beside the rear view mirror.
I didn't know they can detect radar on their equipment, thats why I installed the display and then let the V1 won't lite up.
V1 is the best but expensive, unit itself cost $399+$39(display)+shipping. you need to order it through them directly.

Regarding police ability to pick up a radar detector. When purchasing a radar detector look for it to be immune to the VG-2 monitor. Most of your higher end units have this feature, although the will react differently to encountering a VG-2 monitor. Some will let you know the VG-2 detector is around and shut themselves off (whistler), others will just indicate that it senses the vg-2 monitor and remain on. These ones are clean in that they do not emit enough garbage for the VG-2 to pick up.
Radar detectors are legal in almost all states and most of Canada. I thing they are illegal in wash dc, west Virginia, possibly Minnesota, military bases and Yukon territory. I am sure there are a couple more states were they might be illegal but for the most part its legal. The only thing if you get pulled over with one you a guaranteed to get a ticket.

Does Valentine One have "stealth?"
Is this the same as being VG2 proof?
Yes and yes. The real question is, Can the detector be detected by an instrument called VG2, which is a detector of radar detectors. Good radar detectors, like good AM/FM radios, are super-heterodyne receivers, and they all share a common trait. They receive, but they also transmit a signal; it's called "local oscillator emissions." This transmitted signal can be found by another radio if it's tuned to the right frequency. And VG2 is a merely a radio tuned to the right frequency range for most detectors.
A little history: Escort was the first X-K super-heterodyne detector. Jim Jaeger and I invented it, working out of his basement in the mid-seventies. Since then, other detector makers have taken the easy way and copied Escort's frequency scheme, which means they have the same L-O frequency. So VG2 knows right where to look.
The one detector that's apart from the pack is V1. I didn't copy myself. So VG2 misses Valentine One. But even if it were tuned to the right spot, we'd still be hard to find because we use sophisticated filtering. In our tests, Valentine One is better than all others for VG2-proofing. Our best competitors are pretty good, maybe good enough. Our worst competitors are clueless; Car and Driver, in its last test, detected one of them 3/4 of a mile away.

um............
i thought the point of having the separate display is to have the main unit hidden somewhere.
Wouldn't putting the main unit on the windshield be SUPERvisible to the cops? I don't get it.

the only function that concealed display has is display, once you hook up both unit together, the main unit won't lite up anymore, and it just serve as a detector only and send all the information to the concealed display, I guess this is just a gimmick for them to make more money. hope I explain it well enough

That's where i have my display located as well, in the ashtray. Great location but takes a little getting use to. A big benefit of the concealed display is the easy to use mute button, plus its much easier to change modes.

Where did you wire the unit up by the mirror? I would like to tap into the mirror wires, but the plastic cover over the wires does not pop off very easy and I don't want to break it.
