Default Broken gas meter/gauge on 98 GS

Anyone know how much it would cost to fix it.

Filled up on Saturday, it has come down to the 3/4 mark, filled it back up and apparently, it won't go up anymore, despite filling it up $15. It doesn't even move up, but as I was driving, I notice it go down like normal.

I'm kinda surprised at the minor problems of my GS. Bought it at 60k miles and is now just 70k miles.

I would check a couple of things first try filling all the way up with gas and shut the car off and disconnect the battery to the car for about 15-20 minutes and see what happens. If that doesn't work I think you'll need to remove the cluster from the car And for the price of a new cluster I would say in the thousands

did you check the fuses. I had a car before that would blow a fuse, and the gas gauge would go to 3/4 and stay there.

The fuel guage may be seperate item on the cluster i would think. You should look around and see if that is the case.

sounds like a fuel sending unit problem... not by any means a hard fix. wont effect driving too much except you wont know how much gas you have...

Thanks guys. I will check it out this weekend.

If this turns out to be something that costs +$1000 to repair, I will be very disappointed in my Lexus because I recently changed the starter just a few months ago for the same amount. I have owned 6 cars in my lifetime, 4 of them were bought brand new (the GS wasn't one of them). This is my biggest fear for non certified used cars. You may be taking on somebody's problems. Hope it isn't anything too costly. If it is, modding will have to take yet another delay

GStateOM, did the fuel gauge problem end up being the sending unit? Im having the same issues, and am wondering how you got your past fuel gauge problem resolved? If it was the sending unit, how much did it cost to replace and where did you order the new one from? Thanks...
