Default radio cutting out...

hey everyone, i'm just looking for some ideas as to what might cause my radio to shut off briefly then come right back on. It lasts one or two seconds then it's right back to normal. Any suggestions as to what i should look for first? thanks in advance for any help,

george

Turn off your AF on the radio. More likely than not that's the problem.

My radio shut off and never came back on... It only took me 6 months to accept the loss and get a new system...

I also have a 99 GS4 with NAK stereo. I posted the same problem a month or so ago.

Do you have a NAK?
Is you stereo cutting out when you're pushing the volume high and outside temp is high - 80 degrees or higher?

If so, you have the same problem as me. I jam all the time and my stereo can't take the heat. My stereo face-plate gets very hot in the summer when my A/C is off...I like to drive with the windows down mostly. There must be a lot of heat from our V-8 radiating into the dash. I believe our frontend(tuner & pre-amp) and amp(for speakers) are one integrated unit. I haven't looked, but you may find a small cheap dc fan that will mount close to the Nak unit to help cool it if possible to suck cabin air behind the dashboard.

Nonetheless, I've always planned on upgrading to a Alpine all around with MTX subs. I'll mount the amp in the trunk and if heat is a problem it will be easy to run air into the trunk. I've had this setup before and it rocked my old car. The Nak is nice but not very loud and not clean/punchy at high Db.

Chuckb the thread you provided describes a different problem.

Lexus_kid I think a loose ground would be more noticable under vibration.

Mine is definetly a heat related problem. At high volume it cuts out for only a few seconds then comes back. While it's cut out an odd snap sound eminated from the speakers. If I leave the volume up it will keep happening...the cycle repeats...music..snaps...music...snaps. When I turn the volume down it stops..only music. CD or tuner...it will happen if it's a loud rock jam and the temperature is hot outside...the Nak cuts out. During the winter I don't have the problem or even nice cool summer nights up North was good.

Yeah, maybe it's a defect. Don't really know. Other people had responded to my original thread saying they've had the same problem. For now, the problem doesn't happen since my drive is 2 miles to work. On long drives here I have experienced a problem. It was worse when I lived in NH, I drove 60 miles one way to work from Bedford NH to Peabody MA. The return trip would be hot in the afternoon and slow moving on 128 and I-93.

I'm wondering if GeorgeGS4 has the same problem?

now that i think about it is only happens after ive been driving it a for a while. But it's definately not the radio station because it happens on CD's too. It must have something to do with the heat from the engine bay...i dont think it's wiring because you'd think it would happen more over harsh roads, which it doesnt. stupid little quirk....
